What software that could help my failing DVD player copy large files

Hi everyone,

I desperately need to know what software that could help my failing DVD player copy large files to the computer without starting all over again when it stops copying in the middle of the process. Sometimes the difficulty in copying doesn't lie with the fact the the cd is breaking but also because there are bad or corrupted regions because of scracthing or what have you.

For example, when i copy dvd VOB files, which as you know is quite large, can take quite a while. Is there a away to break it up in chunks? so when the hardware starts to have a hard time copying the file at, say, 900Mb mark, the software would save still save the file.

The application would take note that it has just copied 900 Mb file and would resume it's 200 Mb file in a separate task (in this scenario the total size if the file is 1100 Mb). The application would know the bad area in the cd and would skip the region. I don't mind losing around 10 Mb of data due to corruption rather than losing the whole file just because a few bad apples in the cd tracks.

Everytime i search google for an application of the sort i would get search results for dvd backup or dvd authoring programs. I'm so frustrated.

Is there an application of the sort? An application not invented yet? NO!

Why dont you start by explaing what kind of rig you got and what software you are trying to use as well as what you are trying to copy/backup.

One of the things that will help most if you post the error log.

The more you tell us the more we can help.

What i mean by copying is not in the backing up of movies sort of sense but i'm asking this forum for software ideas because you guys are really knowledgeable in which proggies to use so i thought i'll give it a go asking it here.

The error logs i get or the warning errors Windows gives me is the usual errors people get when their cd cannot or fail to copy/read any file, be it avi, rar, zip etc

I like to and always watch my dvd movies when i copy the VOB files into my harddrive first. This way the transfer/read of files is faster and more reliable than that from the dvd player. It is so annoying when in the middle of watching movies and the cd player is taking a lot of time seeking the tracks :a

So the way I take it if I am correct. You are wanting something to rip the movie to the hard drive???? If this is the case try DVD Decryptor it is freeware and just as good as the ones that you can pay for. Download it from http://doom9.net

To rip the movie to your hard drive just go into mode/iso/read and then under file click on decrypt. But in order to be able to read an iso file you will need something like Daemon tools which is also freeware Look here http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php and then from daemon tools you will mount the iso image and can select what you want to do view what is in the folder or just watch with dvd player software

If you are haveing trouble reading a specific file like a rar file you will have to have winrar. You can find a trial version to make sure this is what you are wanting. look here for winrar http://www.rarsoft.com/

Something for your avi files if you are interested in changing them over to a format that you may have you can use WinAvi Converter http://www.winavi.com/

If after that you want to put it on a DVD-+R you can use DVD Shrink from the same site as above to compress it to fit on a sigle DVD5. If you make sure the settings are right it will switch to Decryrptor and burn.

but i am I correct that this community isn't about backing up of DVD movies only right? I can also ask hardware and software questions that have something to do with CD's and DVD's also am I correct?

My DVD player is breaking down, and i need a software that can break the copying of large file in chunks.

Besides there are poor quality CD discs being sold around and making copying of data back to hard drive difficult.

Any software out there that can help?

If you have a bad DVD player, then buy another DVD player, then use it to backup data. No software is going to fix a hardware issue!

Actually there are so many software out there to help hardware issues.

for example, programs similar to disk defragmenters, an application that marks bad sectors on older hard drives and prevents new information from being written on to the location.

or scanners whose loosing its brightness power overtime so you use the software by increasing the brightness/contrast to counteract it.

Or maybe a person who stole the letters F, U, C, K off a keyboard to impress his friends at school...so one uses the built in software On-Screen Keyboard as a temporary solution.

I could go on.
