Hello, I’m new here. I hope it’s okay where I’m posting this here, if not I apologize in advance. :o
I’m quite desperate and I need help ASAP. I’m super obsessive with my discs so this freaked me out…

I just discovered yesterday that the Verbatims sold here in Argentina are RITEKF1. All of them, the recent ones I bought that look like this: http://a.imageshack.us/img709/4338/ca5830282enl.jpg
And old ones (from 2007 and 2008) that look like this: http://a.imageshack.us/img713/8860/dvdrverbatim.jpg

And I think this has been a problem in most, if not all, of Latin America for a few years.

I checked other DVDs I have and the Imations say the manufacturer is Verbatim and the ID is MCC 03RG20, but I don’t know if that’s true , and the Sony are D21 000.

Now, I know Verbatim are supposed the best, but not here. Taiyo Yuden are not available here and I can’t buy them online.

I just would like to know which one would be the best choice between the ones I mentioned (Sony-D21 000 and Imation-MCC 03RG20), if they are good at all.

I go check which other brands are available tomorrow, aside from those like Ridata and other with strange names which aren’t good at all.
I think they might have TDK, but not sure about how good are those. I believe JVC too, but I’m not sure if the exist… I just think I saw them once, but not sure.

I’ll appreciate any help since I need to make a BIG purchase soon to make back-ups of all my discs.

Thank you very much!

If the MCC 03RG20 is real then that is your best choice but you said you are not sure. Let us know what you find tomorrow, JVC is now Taiyo Yuden made. Do you ever use +R? If you can, I would suggest using +R.

Thanks for the reply.
I checked 2 Imation disks with Nero and I got this: (sorry it’s in spanish :o)
Recent Imation (2009): http://a.imageshack.us/img440/1104/01an.jpg

Old Imation (2007): http://a.imageshack.us/img834/8456/96511102.jpg

I think new ones aren’t good… maybe my best choice is Sony
I just noticed that the disk also has some numbers in black in the center of it, where you grab it. Not sure if that’s normal.

I’ll let you know what I find tomorrow too.

The numbers on center of the disc are normal and Sony might be your best choice not sure.

here are some scans of the New Imation MID

and Sony

where is your Sony made? The country?

I’m afraid I don’t know.
I just checked the disk and this is all the info I got: http://a.imageshack.us/img714/8240/sonyh.jpg

I also have to admit I don’t understand any of what that caps you posted mean :o
Quite embarassing, I know.

What is the serial number of your Sony DVD?

My personal choice would be Sony too.

[QUOTE=pepst;2542277]What is the serial number of your Sony DVD?[/QUOTE]

Doesn’t look like in that picture, it looks more like a stamper code:
From 2 different discs:
DRP5GG0001 4K
DRPGG0001 4T

My options are: NONE
I just came back and all they sell is:

Those Verbatims RITEKF1, Ridata and some other weird ones.

I really don’t know what I’m gonna do. Those Verbatims RITEKF1 are really bad, aren’t they?
I bought just one Ridata to check it out… doesn’t look good: http://a.imageshack.us/img197/8818/10016081.jpg

I’m going to try another place, but I can’t even get Sony!
And I can’t buy online either

While the RITEKF1s aren’t the best media available, I wouldn’t be too worried about using them (if you have no other better choice).

:Z Stay clear of any Ritek G05 media - they lose data after only a few months.

#10

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I’m not happy at all about using RITEKF1s. I’m so afraid I’ll lose all the stuff in the discs. And my burner has ruined a few discs lately and I was told that it was probably the media I was using. So now I don’t know if it’s the media or the burner.

I’m going to try to find some Sonys, I just hope I can…

What speed are you burning? I would burn them at 8X.

#12

I always used 4x. Just found out I shouldn’t do that. :o

But I don’t understand why my drive was burning discs just fine and then just stopped. I haven’t tried again, but it ruined 4 in a row.
It’s just a year old and has burned less than 50 discs.

#13

I went to another store and they only have Imation: http://a.imageshack.us/img340/8114/75834383.jpg
They also have a code on the discs: ZO096S DVDMINUSR 16X

So my options are those or the Verbatim RITEKF1: http://a.imageshack.us/img291/1720/28693130.jpg

Between those two, which one is my best choice… since apparently, I can’t find any Sony.

#14

I would go for the RITEK F1s.
I’ve been getting very consistant results with them.

My experience with MBI DVD media is mixed, they vary greatly from batch to batch.

Just stay far away from RITEK G05 DVD-Rs

#15

Thanks Womi for the rec. I appreciate it!

I don’t want to be a pain, but I would really like if some of you could recommend me which one of the 2 options I have, I should get.

Imation: http://a.imageshack.us/img340/8114/75834383.jpg
They also have a code on the discs: ZO096S DVDMINUSR 16X

Or Verbatim RITEKF1: http://a.imageshack.us/img291/1720/28693130.jpg

Thanks for the help!

I would second this.

Do you have the latest firmware (version 1.02) installed on your DVD writer?

#17

Hi, it’s me again.

First I want to thank you all for your help, really I still don’t understand the first thing about this and second I want to update you guys a bit.
These days the only media I can get is Verbatim. From the outside they look weird… I don’t want to say fake, but they don’t look alike from others I bought 2 months ago.
This is info I get in both Nero (for some reson, Nero never lets me do the Dick Quality scan, ever) and DVD Identifier.

I didn’t mean to burn it with Nero, I was just clicking around and cancelled it quickly :stuck_out_tongue:

Are these okay or what? The code on the center of the disc (not the transparent part) is MOGXPR-438.
I can see that these say they’re MCC, but I’m not sure. Plus, the info says DVD+R but the disc is DVD-R, I mean… ?

Thanks again for your help!
C.
