What laptop should I get

On am looking for a laptop but I don’t know which one to get?
I want peformance and good tech support plus reliability.
Something in the ups of $1500. Some 3 hour battery life and not as heavy and a freaking desktop pc (less then 8 lbs).

Have a look at an iBook or a laptop from IBM.
Don’t be scared of the iBook just because it’s not a PC, you can do pretty much everything in OS X that you can do on a PC and the OS is alot more stable too.
IBM is known to make quality laptops that are reliable compared to Dell etc.

I’ll also try to get a notebook later this year, preferably with a 17-inch LCD that displays at least 1920x1200 and an 8x DVD writer. 7.2K RPM HDD plus 1GB DDR memory would be nice as well. The newest mobile processor series are equipped with 2MB L2. My Dell Centrino at 1.6GHz with 1MB L2 cache was not very fast.

I like IBM thinkpads. They are bricks compared to those shitty overpriced apple notebooks. With that said, I still want an Apple 15" PowerBook, but only if they can figure out how to put a G5 in there.

Can anybody recommend a good site for buying laptops in the UK…and where prices are good! (<£800)? I’m thinking of getting one, but would be appreciative of any advice on where best to look.

The okace i got my laptop from. Very helpful and the laptop is fantastic.

Hi Ock, thanks for the reply

Anybody got any advice on whether this is worth a look or not? (price: £800)

Dunno about that one but I would go for an Intel Penitum M-based laptop (not a P4), preferable a Centrino certified and/or with faster WLAN than 11b (I think those 11g aren’t certified).

i personanally am impressed with the athlon 64 laptops…they have amazing bus speeds for a laptop! my next one will not be intel. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the feedback guys…unfortunately i’m still not sure what i should get…but at least i know i should get an intel or an athlon system! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll try looking for some comparison reviews on the net of different laptops

CD 1986,

Here are some new motherboards for Intel’s new Dothan processors.

Mini-ITX form factor.

What has Mini-ITX got to do with laptops?

OK am going for the Acer Aspire 1511LMi at just over £900 (see sig). I also have Windows XP 64-bit edition, but I was wondering where I can get hold of 64-bit nvidia video drivers where the inf also supports mobile GPUs. Can’t seem to find any that are both for the windows 64-bit version AND support mobile chips.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
