How old is this drive/burner

#4

Drive is about 2 years old…

#5

I think that SJ is intimating that the burner is either stuffed or close to it.

#6

The servomechanism that positions the laser head is either failing or not communicating correctly with the drive control electronics. If it happens at the same place on every disc, it may be something jammed in the track. Try blowing it out with compressed air.

#7

i see this is an external drive. it may not be receiving sufficient power.

have you opened it up and cleaned it lately? if not you should think about doing this, you did say it is 2 years old.

just open up the drive, spay it out with some compressed air and apply a light amount of white lithium grease to the shafts the laser rides on. then clean the laser with eye glass cleaner and light pressure using a soft Q-tip [alcohol based cleaners may leave an invisible film].

edit//

If it happens at the same place on every disc,

Write error at 119344, Write error at 120928

pretty close for those two burns anyway. have you tried different package of media? i know you are using Verbatim 16x DVD+R but i have had some bad ones in a 100 cake box before. could be a defective area of the particular batch of media.

#8

I was able to copy another title, but the next one failed again. I will try blowing the drive out with compressed air and try again. I just started getting these errors today…How long does a drive last?

May want to try a Laser lens cleaning disk, memorex as a good one.
as far as how long one last it really depends on the enverment it is in, if you are a smoker gotta take that into consideration because the smoke can settle on the lens along with dust and very fine pet hairs

#10

Good suggestions from everyone. If you try the clean with a Q-TIP method, use very light pressure and be sure to get all the optical ports, not just the big one in the middle. The small ones on the sides need some love too.
