I just received a "How have you been?" email from someone named "Bas Jansen" CDFreaks Support. Wow I thought, they care enough to check on my welfare. Apparently this Bas Jansen wanted to know why I had not posted any comments in months.
In December of last year I visited this Web site via a Google search for "Reviews XLNT IDEA Nexis 100AP" and found this page (http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Nexis-100AP-Publishing-System/System-Features.html). I never visited this site before then so I thought, wow what a cool place and it looks feature rich so the review will most likely be spot on. NOT!
Not only did I purchase the unit "Doug Schwartz" gave such a glowing review to (minus the disc drive), but spent a week in disc duplication hell after it arrived. I posted my comments to the review, apparently the last person to post comments about the unit. Dougs review had no similarities to my experience in any way - the unit out of box appeared cheaply made, much like the Lexmark printers when they first hit store shelves, I never was able to correctly print any discs, the printer GUI had an awful layout, so difficult I could not find some settings without contacting tech support for assistance. Even tech support could not figure out why the GUI did not register ink levels - NOTHING WORKED! 3 successive days I spent on the phone with tech support until finally swallowing my pride and shipping the junk back to the distributor I purchased the unit from.
Needing to complete a client project on time, I purchased an Epson Discproducer for 3k. I would marry that machine if it was a chick! After 4 months and over 7000 disc, only 3 coasters, which the machine promptly labeled as defective to prevent reuse. The GUI is not glamorous but very functional and easy to navigate and the machine hardware is top notch. Regardless that I paid 2k more for the Epson than the Nexus, the darn thing just worked right out of the box. I have yet to call tech support.
So why would this Bas Jansen send me an email as if he, or she, cared what happened to me when I posted questions about the unit (http://club.cdfreaks.com/f123/cd-freaks-presents-nexis-100ap-publishing-system-review-235601) and never received a reply. More importantly I leveraged the review by Schwartz to purchase the unit. There is absolutely no way he created quality disc with that machine as I have first hand experience, so I am led to believe there was motivation outside of informing the community about a new product.
If posts do not get answered, reviews are clearly skewed and inaccurate, why would anyone care about visiting a Web site where the slogan reads, "Knowledge is Power"?
