Hm. I own a very picky CD player (JVC UX-T1) which is my personal benchmark for a good quality audio CD.
For such players, neither the blank media nor the drive would be good enough. My personal favourites for blank media would be TY, CMC and Ritek made stuff (knowing that the two latter might not last very long). With my 3 Samsung drives in my possesion (SH-S203B, SH-S182D, TS-L632H) I was not able to create an audio CD that was good enough to be playable in the aforementioned JVC player. I guess, this is also the case with the 22x series drives.
Most modern CD players are fortunately much more forgiving than my JVC thingy.
My suggestion would be: burn at 16x and try the discs in the CD players you own. If they work, then okay, otherwise you'd need to rethink your media and drive combination.
