What is Raptor?

Could some one tell me what raptor is. Is it a brand of HDD?, an interface? What is it?
Thank you

Western Digital’s Raptor series are hard drives that use SATA instead of the traditional IDE to connect, and run at 10,000RPM. A normal drive these days is only 7,200RPM. They’re fast, but also small and expensive. A 74GB Raptor will run you close to $200.
