What is Bitsetting?

Sorry, this is probably in the wrong forum. Can someone explain or point me in the right direction?

It is a function that can be applied to DVD+R media only and allows you to change the booktype of the DVD. DVD-R’s booktype (-R) cannot be changed. Bitsetting allows you to tell your drive to set a bit on the disc to allow it to be recognised as a DVD-ROM instead of a DVD+R, allowing old DVD players to play your disc. Some older players only supported DVD-R or did not support either, so setting the booktype to DVD-ROM will fool the dvd player into thinking it is playing a pressed DVD, since this is the info that your dvd player looks at first before playing your disc.

Now see, why can’t we have more people like you in this forum? I felt like I was reading a textbook! This even saved me the trouble of having to ask what “booktyping” is (including the different booktype values).

Thank You Sir
