Generally, Gigabyte (and Asus) have always produced reliable and well regarded mobos, so I would recommend sticking to one of these brands for the most part.

As for which processor to buy, I’m an AMD man myself just because they’re cheaper than Intel for the equivalent processing power. Buy the best CPU that you can afford; if you plot a graph of clock speed against price for a give CPU range (e.g. Phenom X2) it should be a roughly straight line upto the point where you start paying a premium for the latest technology. This is often a good place to start.

iccows, whatever you do don’t buy that AMD combo deal you linked to, thats very outdated stuff.

If your on a budget get either an AMD based system with a MB that has the 770 or 785G chipset, make sure it has the AM3 socket and uses DDR3 memory. If you want to spend a bit more and go Intel, then get a MB with the P55 chipset and the model 750 CPU.

Regrettably, that CPU will not fit the GigaByte motherboard that you linked to. In fact, that GigaByte motherboard is for Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Socket 1156 processors. And of the quad-core processors, the least expensive CPU that’s compatible with that GigaByte motherboard is the Intel Core i5-750 (less expensive Intel processors compatible with that GigaByte motherboard are only dual-core; however, those dual-core i-series processors can use the onboard graphics capabilities of the H55 chipset that cannot be used by the higher-end processors - in other words, a PCIe graphics card is required with a quad-core CPU on that motherboard).
