This is nothing new. Plextor saw the optical storage market shrinking years ago and expanded their product lineup to include DV convertors and hard drives. This HDTV tuner is just their latest attempt to diversify.

This HDTV tuner is just their latest attempt to diversify.” The article sez: “allows users to watch, pause, and record crystal-clear High-Definition TV on most Windows-based laptop computers.” Ummm…maybe they are trying to create a need/use for an optical drive…to record onto. This is a compatible product. Laptops usually have small HDD compared to PC’s and HD is large sized files. I think this is smart of Plextor. Of course, who in their right mind would use a Plextor drive considering the less expensive alternatives out there? :S

The title is sort of misleading. I thought it was another article saying they are going down the tubes.
