What goes wrong? :/

[qanda]This thread is about the Pioneer DVR-112D DVD/CD Writer Black. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi all.
I’ve recently bought a Xbox 360 and like many else i want to backup my games.

I’ve got a Pioneer DVR-112D with the latest firmware (1.28) and using Windows 7 RC1 7100, and I burned with the latest version of Imgburn (2.4.4.0).

During the burn the log showed some errors:

After I did a scan using dvdinfopro with my 112D and the result is attached.
I really don’t understand the scan at all
Why does the scan slow down to ~0.5x and is the huuuge PIF-spike a sign of a bad burn or is it just the scan that f*cked up real bad?

I’ve tested the burned disc briefly in the Xbox and it worked then, but who knows if will work 100%.

So…I wonder if someone knows what’s wrong. My 112D? The media? The scan?

Ah, the media is a white inkjet fullface printable with the mediacode MKM003 (isn’t that the mediacode that Verbatim use?) called Premium(?)

Could it be fakes?

Probably windows 7 problem. Dont trust beta versions.

Hmm…Ok, guess I could test the 112D in my HTPC that has Vista instead. I’ll get back with results later  Thnx

During the burn the log showed some errors…
Complex problems for burner/HDD. But for sure I don’t think it has anything to do with the OS ussed. :flower:

Honestly pellen, I can’t see 1 retry as a problem at all. :disagree:
Heck, with 20 retries, then you should be worried.

pellen make sure your burner runs i DMA mode (Not sure how to check this under W7 but rightclicking drive in explorer and choosing -properties- maybe is the way :D)
Note also, most of nowdays main chipset doesn’t support IDE bus at all and almost all add-on controller seem to be pure crap (like JMicron).

I am also running Win 7 on another 'puter, and it is really buggy. No driver support anywhere yet that I can find.

The burner is in UDMA mode 4, so nothing wrong there
Anything you can render from the scan? I really don’t understand why the scan slows down like hell in the middle of the scan and then the huge spike
Well well, gonna try the burner on Vista tomorrow

So far I’ve moved my 112D to my HTPC that’s using Vista and done a scan…with the same result. Gonna try one more burn though and see if that goes better.

Meh…burned a new backup with the 112D in the HTPC. The burn went fine, but when I did a scan with dvdinfo pro the same thing happened again. 50% in the scan the speed drops to almost zero and it scans sloooowly in ~30 minutes, and then when the speed increases to normal again the huuuuuuge PIF-spike is appears.

So now i wonder if its the 112D that can’t do a proper scan or is it the burning that goes wrong?

Hi,

There must be a reason why Pioneer scanning support has been removed from CD/DVD Speed (on request from Pioneer)

Aaah…Well then. Guess I’ll try to find a friend with a burner that can make better scans and hope my backups continue to work otherwise
