What exactly is warez?

I know this is a dumb question - but what exactly is warez anyway? I see lots of forums that state “no warez” - but I don’t know what is classified as warez?

Gadfly

Warez is a term generally used to refer to illegally obtained software (being games or other programs).

Warez are mostly ripped games/programs, whereas ISOz are images of the original CDs.

Either way you look at it, it is illegal and thus now allowed.

Hope this (brief) explanation clarified things for you a bit.

Thanks for the response - it did clarify a bit. From this I gather that ‘warez’ can referr to any reference to a place to obtain an ‘illegal’ copy of something - thus including refering to a P2P site if it’s state in the context of 'where to get" a specific program etc…

Is that correct?

Gadfly

It is not the place to get it that is referred to as warez, it is the (ripped) software that is referred to as warez.

Would like to ad; serials, illigall patches, “cracks” aso…

And in some cases you can dl software/games legally as trial, from the rightowner own homepage, but together with just mentioned (illigalls) the endproduct can also be categorized as “warez”.
