What drive did I just buy? Dynex 16xDVDRw dl

I just got on @ bestbuy cause i had a giftcard there and it was 60$ open box
now i know from experiance, 90% of BB cr4p is rebranded stuff, and often is a Good liteon or NEC drive… soo
what did i get, is it worth keeping or returning and getting $$?

anyone ??

You could’ve at least provided the specs on the box… a photo would be nice. Plugging it into your computer and reading off what Nero InfoTool or DiscInfo says would probably be the most useful.

$60 open box is a typical BB rip-off. You can get a new drive for less.

IMHO, BB open box deals are always bad deals.

www.newegg.com is the place to go for a fair price.

Check the label on the drive, is the firmware version shown?

yeah i was holding out for newegg, but with giftcard it wasnt bad… i get everything else from newegg

I’ll go out on a limb and call it a BTC burner.

Good call. They made the 8X model. I would return it, Dynex no longer has any support.

hmm yeah, if its not something decent ill return it and get something else, i wasnt holding my breath lol
what should i get? i was thinking benq 6x DL support…

Dynex DX-DVDRW16
OEM:BTC
Chipset:Mediatek

thx, VideoHelp!

If you want BenQ, I would wait for the 1640 as there have been defects reported in the 1620 that lead to premature failure.

speak for yourself, my 1620 pro singsssssss and 1640 don’t over-speed.

Do a little more checking. A significant number of BenQ 1620s made from October to early 2005 were made with a chip which was defective and caused a premature death. At one time there was a thread where users would post how long their 1620 lasted before it died. I never said that the 1620 was a bad drive when it worked. The problem is that there are way too many that don’t.

I am glad yours is working; I hope mine (third RMA) continues to as well.

hmm sounds like the new benq is the better one, who knows
what would you suggest for best DL support (6-8 +R) and fastest DVDDL rips?
