What are these files?

Windows XP:

I notice numerous files with string designations similar to these showing up in my backup; what are they; can they be deleted?

Which backup (software/system) were used and are they really files or just (hidden) sys folders?!

Those are left over files from Windows update. Why do you need to delete them?

Windows xp update generates such folders in root directory.
When I am in a bad/irresponsible mood, I delete those folders on my old PC.
