Hello,

my HDD suddenly stoped working. It spins up but most of the time it doesnt get recognised during POST. I tried all the low level recovery tools and the diagnose tool form WD, nothing worked. After some research i found out that I probably have a firmware bug. I found this German site which offers to repair it for 375 euros. http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hddlab.de%2Fdatenrettung%2Fdatenrettung-wd.html
Now my question is, is there a way for me to repair it myself, even if I have to have some special tools for it?

A program like SpinRite may help. Or maybe someone else has a better idea. It’s about $89.00 US.

Its a known firmware bug - so sue WD for that!
The data on the disk is already lost - forever!
