here WD website
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=792
time to get SATA 3.0 motherboard

#2

I’m not sure the small increase in speed would warrant a complete mobo upgrade.
I think in real life every day usage a person probably couldn’t really see all that much of a
big difference between SATA 2.0 and SATA 3.0 not enough to shell out $$$$ just for a new
mobo with SATA 3.0. If a person was planing on doing a new build anyway or doing a complete
major upgrade then it might be worth it. :iagree:

Good news, and i was about to get another 1T WD, so now i will wait for the sata3 version to be available here,
plus i already have the motherboard, so it would be nice to see how faster from a sata2 can this be.

Same here
I’m waiting SATA 3.0 VelociRaptor 10000rpm ( 600GB ? ) and 25nm
Intel third generation SSD ( 160GB & 320GB )

Don’t expect much of a speed difference for HDD on SATA 6Gbps, there are still none that can saturate a SATA1 controller.
SSD will be only thing at the moment to make use of SATA 6Gbps. Currently the only SSD to support SATA 6Gbps is Micron’s REALSSD 300 and it’s clones, and they had to goto Marvell for the SSD controller and SATA 6Gbps controller. Rather embarrassing as Intel and Micron together, will make the 25nm NAND

I wouldn’t count on the Intel Gen3 being SATA 6Gbps either, Intel still don’t have a SATA 6Gbps interface, and won’t have SATA 6Gbps on motherboards until much later.

#6

we will have to wait for the price of an 80G ssd to be at 150 euros or less, because 200 for 80G is to much for me, and for the moent a sata3 disc with a good price would be a better choice to replace my 500Gb wd blue :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the info Dee
wait and see about SATA 3.0 now
and I move to Intel SIX-Core i7-980 XE ( next month  )

and Gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7 $349
I already have Full tower Case ( Thermaltake ) and PSU ( corsair 850W ) also 2GB X 6 Super Talent DDR3 2000 memory

I don’t have any Samsung HDD
try get one sometime soon and Thanks

First Seagate 7200.11 1.5TB 32MB ( own 17)
Second Hitachi 2TB Deskstar 32MB ( own 5 )
P.S Seagate 2TB 5900RPM is much fater than Hitachi HDD 1TB and 2TB both 32MB Cache

I had a Seagate 2TB 5,900 RPM a few weeks ago. It was reasonably fast and reliable, but I sold it soon since two 1TB Samsung F2 were much cheaper than one 2TB.

I’ve used only Samsung F1 and F2, no F3 yet. It’s unfortunate my Asus H55 motherboard has only USB 3.0, and not SATA 3.

When are you going to reach 1PB? Not for me - electricity is too expensive in South Korea.

That’s going to be 3x more powerful than my i3 530 (32nm, 256KB * 2, 4MB). My 530 is overclocked from 2.93GHz to 4.4GHz, but it has only two cores. I prefer i3 530 to similarly priced 4-core Denev 920.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 (HD502HJ) HDD 500GB (SATA2)

Thanks for the scan Dee
How come so fast ?
Did I wrong ?

#18

You didn’t do anything wrong with your tests, Burnsama.
The Samsung F3 is just very fast.
It has 500GB platters, so has very high data density, and BTW, the 500GB model only has 16MB of cache.
As an operating system drive, it’s probably not as fast as the WD Black or VRaptor, as i think the WD Black has higher 4K performance and the VRaptor certainly does, but as a storage drive the Samsung F3 is way out in front of any other HDD, IMO, as its sequential read/write speeds are awesome.

#19

Thanks again Dee
add couple Samsung HDD soon as possible

P.S it really too many shopping list this year …sigh

#20

This new samsung drives are even faster than my old F1, and this makes me feel like it’s time to replace the 500Gb wd blue with an F3 500G or 1Tb
