The above from your log shows DMA off. This is probably the cause of your problems!
Go to system properties/hardware device manager and remove/delete the IDE/ATAPI controllers. Reboot and windows will install the default drivers.
Go back into device manager and navigate to the IDE/ATAPI controllers and in the primary and secondary IDE channel go to properties/advance settings and make sure that DMA if available is selected.
Try a test burn and report back.

Elfz87, try with this program. Just run it. You wont have to unninstall your IDE controllers.

or that is the wrong place to check for DMA?

It’s better to check your DMA settings in Device Manager.

Also avoid running programs that require lot of physical memory while burning.

The INVALID ADDRESS FOR WRITE error is likely caused by a stall in the data. As already implied this is probably because DMA doesn’t seem to to be used.

The nVidia drivers might not be the most suitable, the stock Microsoft IDE driver might work better. Other posts on the forum discuss this.

You can check DMA settings here
Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->xxx IDE Channel

The hard drive really needs to be using DMA too. Check that the peripherals are attached using flat 80 conductor IDE cables. Don’t bother burning any more disks until all the hard drives and the burners are using DMA, at least UDMA2 for each, the hard drive should get to be UDMA4-6

The amount of memory free is less important than the ability to sustain the drive with a flow of data, which seems to be the problem here. Large buffers cannot mask systemic problems, only temporal ones.

ok thanks for all your help!

nvidia ide drivers - creepy.

Also, disable multisesion!!!

erm sorry for the late reply coz i’m in NS now…only weekend can book out…
anyway i tried uninstalling the entire Nvidia drivers from the computer le…
did everything u all told me, switch on the DMA but then still got the invalid block address.

i have 2 problems after uninstalling entire Nvidia drivers , when i right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager>other devices

i saw 2 question mark items:

  1. Other PCI Bridge Device
  2. SM Bus Controller

i tried to install them by clicking the reinstalling button but it states failed to install the device after searching the computer for installation files.

i also placed in the winxp cd into the cd-rom drive but also cannot install. i tried the window update, but there is no update available…

how do i install both of the items mentioned above?

Are you trying to burn the same image file as previously? It looks like it to me.

Perhaps the image is corrupt.

yeapz the same files… but not image files… they are all .mpg or .mpeg files

I see you’re still using multi-session. No point when writing a full disc.

So this is a Nero Data DVD I assume if you’ve got a mix of files.

Perhaps try creating an ISO image in Nero & burn that with ImgBurn. At least if that fails we’ll know it’s not Nero.

Some suggestions I’ve found suggest updating the firmware. There seems to be a JL11 version available but I can never find these things on the LG websites.

Clearly with the second log some other app had access to the burner as the exclusive lock failed. This is not good but seeing as the first log showed the lock had been achieved it’s unlikely to be the cause of the error.

You might also want to try a HD defrag as if the cause is data not being provide fast enough as TDB suggest then severe fragmentation could affect this.

this is the log file from img burn after creating iso image with nero…

i insert the disc into the dvd drive i can view the files i burn, this means that the burn is successful?

also when i open imgburn prog i got error msg as stated in the image attachment.

Well, some progress. We now know it’s not Nero!.

This problem starts immediately after the lead-in has been written and occurs with 2 different DVD media, 2 different burning apps and different sources (files & image).

Do you have InCD installed & running? Don’t know if that’ll make a difference but it has been known to cause problems?

What about “Enable CD Recording” for the burner. Is that set?

What else? A faulty drive perhaps, faullty IDE cable?

That’s me just about out of ideas.

i dun have InCD installed…

What about “Enable CD Recording” for the burner. Is that set?
>> the dvd burner?

gosh i still cant solve the problem… =((

even when i try with TDK cd-rw

Doesn’t matter if it’s a CD writer or DVD writer. If you don’t use Windows in-built CD writing software it’s best to disable it. Has been known to cause problems.

where to disable it ?

Right click on the burner in My Computer. Properties -> Recording. Ensure that "Enable CD Recording… " is unchecked.

It may well be unchecked but it’s worth looking anyway.

i have already enable DMA settings for all controllers under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers,

Primary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Current Transfer Mode > Ultra DMA Mode 6
Device 0 > Current Transfer Mode > NA

Primary IDE Channel > Device 0 > Current Transfer Mode > Ultra DMA Mode 5
Device 1 > Current Transfer Mode > NA

Secondary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Current Transfer Mode > Ultra DMA Mode 2
Device 0 > Current Transfer Mode > NA

Secondary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Current Transfer Mode > NA
Device 0 > Current Transfer Mode > NA

i suppose this is what u all meant by enabling DMA?
