Found a good deal on DVD media only to find out that it is not supported in firmware? Well start by posting:

Ijust wanna mention about the above media that i have burnt
two SENTINEL+R 4X( RICOHJPNR01 ) and i had very good results.
Actually this brand was one of the few that played back flawlessly
even in my cheap home-dvd BLUESky DV 2400 and ofcourse also in my sony DVP NS330,PS2,and my pc drives(emprex and creative)
I used at that time NERO 6.00.15 and FW 0036( now i use 6.00.23 and fw 0043)

In that case it just makes you wonder why it’s not on the media compatibility list @BTC or even at the firmware changelog. How are we supposed to find supported media if not even mentioned in the available resources?

There is a difference between just adding a certain MID code to the firmware and really declaring compatibility.
When a certain new MID code is added to the firmware, it doesn’t mean that immediately the drive works perfectly with that particular media. The media can then be recognized, but hasn’t been thoroughly tested on many drives with many discs, so doesn’t necessarily work flawless all the time.
Only after the firmware has been thoroughly tested, using many drives and many discs, will we declare full compatibility with a certain media and put it on the BTC website’s media compatibility list. Only then you may expect them to work flawlessly.
Sometimes the process of tuning firmware and subsequent thorough testing has to be done a couple of times before a satisfactory result is obtained. In other words, it takes a lot of time to tune media, that is why it’s not that easy to add a new item to the media support list.
And now that the DRW1008 has come out, the work has even doubled…

I see what you mean. However from an endusers point of view, I would prefer if MID codes were not added to firmwares before a higher level of compatibility could be guaranteed - and write strategies were more optimized. I see no reason for adding support for a MID code, if C1 / C2 scannings in BTC labs are not at least within specs. All you end up producing otherwise are coasters - and they are quite expensive in the long run. And we - the endusers - don’t like them, start to complain and all of a sudden the BTC drive earns itself a reputation which might - or might not - be fair

Just want to add this to my previous post.
Below please find a scan from K’s probe. Is this media/MID supported in firmware? I hope not, but I guess it is anyway since Nero allows to burn it at 4X.
But take a look at the scan. The media is absolutely useless with this burner. My luck it’s a DVD+RW or another media would have been wasted.
