.VOB to .WMV

Anyone knows of a reliable program which can convert .VOB to .WMV files?

I tried using “WinAvi” since I’ve always used it but this time, it is not working. Maybe because the .VOB is about 1gb size?

I also tried “OJOsoft” but it is asking me for CODECs which I can’t find.

Any help with said CODECs or a better program would be greatly appreciated.

Well, there’s always SUPER, which seems to be able to convert anything. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER I strongly advise clicking on the direct link on that page unless you want to read three pages of propaganda at the author’s site.

There are specialized tools, like WMVConvert, which uses WindowsMediaEncoder 9. (caveat: I haven’t tried this one)

Thank you very much, I will check these out and post my experience with them here in a bit.

Another thing I should point out, the “WinAvi” actually works, just that it encodes the first :38 seconds of the file. Also, when I change the file extension from .VOB to .MPG and try to convert it to .WMV with Windows Media Encoder, it does the same thing, just the first :38 seconds then it gives me the “task completed” message.

Any insight on this?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, don’t know what is going on there.

If you have a set of .vob files in a Video_TS folder, you can convert them into one big mpeg file using Vob2Mpeg. It is free to use and doesn’t degrade the quality of the video, since it is just merging the vobs and renaming the extension. That is my normal method of getting mpeg2 out of .vob files.

Ok, so I tried SUPER. I got the same results from the other 2 programs, each .VOB file is encoded up to the first 11 to 20 seconds into .WMV .

I encoded an entire .VOB file into .WMV not long ago with no problems and the .VOB came from the same session and type of DVD of the one giving me problems .

What can be causing this?

So I got it to work. SUPER really goes by its name. Not too fast but very reliable.
