Vista + movies = major headaches

Is anyone else getting major problems on Windows Vista with anything to do with movies in particular avi files.
I get error’s like WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING AND MUST RESTART - RELOOPING MY ENTIRE DESKTOP (when trying to open a disc in my disc drive containing avi files)
or WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER HAS STOPPED WORKING AND NEEDS TO RESTARD (when trying to play an avi file)
Gone are the good old days with win XP when all you needed to do was download the DIVX codec and all u’r movie problems were magically solved, NONE OF THAT HERE!
Vista seems to be highly incompatible with anything to do with movie files like avi files, it just keeps crashing, i can’t make a dvd without it having skips/freezes all the way through, mu cucusoft won’t even work, and when i try to open a disc in my disc drive everything crashes and my desk top reloops.
This is great fun for someone who’s favourite pastime is watching movies eh?

Try using VLC player, everything is contained within the player as for codec’s.

I’ve been using Vista with video for a year now with zero problems…
