Vista corrupt profile help

Recently, the profile I have on Vista stopped loading correctly (after performing Automatic Updates). My computer loads a temporary profile every time I restart my computer. I called Dell support and they told me the profile was corrupted and I would need to reinstall my OS. Also, the things I can do in my Control Panel are limited, some of the pages won’t load correctly.

Can anyone help with what I should do here? Can I recover all my music and files? Thanks in advance.

I don’t know if it helps, but I’ve found a “howto” for recovering user profiles in XP (see attachment). It may be different in Vista, or not…

Hm I’m not sure, that came up as a bunch of gibberish. I guess it only works for XP.
