I started this thread for the most part to have others check their Event Viewer to see if they had the warning:
" The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: tcoifh " .
If they don’t then it may not be that prevalent a virus. It could even be a false positive that the people that posted in the various forums Google found thought was a virus.
I’m still hoping for some feedback from someone who found it in their Event Viewer or didn’t.
Apparently yojimbo197 , coolcolors , & Wombler didn’t .
Just to make it clear I haven’t been reinfected . The backup cured the problem.
This was the first virus I’ve had in a long time .
On the other hand none of the AV’s or malware I have detected this virus.
So I might not have known If I had one.
I also ran the portable of CCE & it also failed to detect it .
If I knew where I got it I would see if it would now be blocked.
Yes I use a M$ O/S like the majority still do . Unfortunately M$ has the most software designed to work with it so I live with it.
I have kept Windows Defender disabled on XP ,Vista , & W7 . I don’t see a problem with that. If anything I see it as a program that might conflict with other AV or anti malware program . For MSC it may be good but it is a M$ program I don’t “have” to use so I don’t.
About two years ago I was using Avira instead of Avast . They changed something in the update I didn’t like IIRC so I changed.
