Your TV could care less what format it is its the standalone unit that is the dvd player that requires it to be the correct format that it can play to display it on the TV. You have to know if it is PAL or NTSC format. If you want to try convertxtodvd 3 is a good paid progam that give you a trial period to use that you can play around with to see if it gives the results your looking for. This program will convert the various formats to DVD format so your dvd player will play it correctly. If you Standalone plays various format then you should be ok but if it only plays DVD format then you will have to convert over to DVD format.
