Video display problem after auto shutdown

The other day I was backing up The Clearing. I used the auto computer shutdown after burn option. The computer did shutdown after burn, but the next day when I started up my computer the display on my monitors were all screwed up. There were vertical multi colored bars running down my screen. After I reinstalled my video drivers I resolved the problem, but strangly some of my desktop icons are still displaying all pixalized with parts missing. Most are microsoft icons, but do include the Virtual CloneDrive icon and others. These same icon distortions are also displayed in the start/program list.
Vary strange. I never had this problem before. Since this happen after using clonedvd2's auto shutdown I was if this could be related some how???

Could be with fast shutdown. Did you try system restore? Perhaps you should retest with CloneDVD to confirm your suspicion.

I did a system restore right after the video issue was resolved. I'm almost afraid to try the sequence that may have caused this issue. Hate to fawl things up eeven more. Especially since system restore had no positive effect the first time.

Well, you can't fix the problem if you cannot duplicate the problem. I have the ability to image my partition. Therefore, I can quickly restore the PC to reverse ANY problem.

In my humble opinion disk imaging software is the most valuable piece of software you can own. I have at least 8 images stored at any given time. I have gutted Windows XP to a bare minimum and moved the page file and any unnecessry software to a additonal drive to speed up backups and restores. It takes me exactly 1 minute and 27 seconds to do a backup or restore. Unlike XP restore, your computer is identical to that of when you made the image. I have restored images well over 100 times and never once did I have a failure, once in a while the clock is off due to Daylight Savings Time, I can't tell you how many times this has save my butt. XP restore is a joke, I have it disabled, useless as far as I'm concerned.

Yup, my XP Pro SP1 partition is only 703MB. About 3 minutes to restore the good image file. I don't use System Restore. Windows file protection is also OFF.

Restoring a "virgin/as loaded" image file is a 5 min job. Idiot proof method of testing hardware/sofware problem.
