VGA extension cable - lame question

Okay, the other day I’ve bought a VGA extension cord and I noticed I have a blury image on my screen (920N). Without extension cord the image is fine. I noticed a missing pin on that new D-sub. After quickly browsing the internet under “VGA extension cable” I’ve seen that almost every cord has that “feature”.

So, what is causing my blury picture and why is there a missing pin?

Resulting cable too long (original+extension) and probably not properly shielded. I had a similar experience (double/triple image) when I tried to extend the original cable from my Sony CRT monitor. I immediately removed the extension and all went back to normal. Needless to say, I gave up on extensions…

What about plugging the screen (with extension connected) via DVI adapter to DVI output?
