Recently got myself the talked about LITEON SOHW-1633S, against some of the negative advice I read here. The drive, to my surprise, is very reliable, have not burnt one coaster, no complaints, all DVDs play fine on many DVD players I tried it on. My main concern........K-PROBE results..... I read negative reviews about the 1633 and posts here with aveage to poor KPROBES..... What I get with 1633 are amazingly good KPROBES. I have kept my old 811S and using my 1633 as a second burner...... The strange part is that the DVD I scan on my 1633 has excellent kprobes, but the SAME DVD scanned on the 811S has PI's in the millions (total count) and maximum sometimes exceeding 280PI towards the end......with PIFs always below 4 but in the many hundreds......in other words like day and night. My personal hunch tells me I should trust the 811S.
Here is an example:
This is a FULL DVD+R I burnt with my 1633..... Burnt at 4x, using Maxell DVD+R brand, id code RITEKR02 (keep in mind RITEKS are not as they used to - it is very mixed - they are generally not good medi - but clearly you will see from the graph below, an excellent kprobe..... TOTAL PI count is below 100,000, which is excellent...... the total individual value no more than 15...... PIF totals are a bit high, but individuals never exceed 4...... This is quite amazing for a RITEKR02.....
