Hi all,
Which one is good:
Verbatim 4.7GB DVD-R Media 100PK Spindle, Model 94985, Retail

or

Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 4.7GB, 8X, $0.55 ea., 100-Pack

And are the Verbatim media from newegg bad?

Thank you
Doctor Aziz

both will sufice! Just take the one which is cheaper, or if there’s no real difference I would go for the Yudens!

Choose Taiyo Yuden, Doc.

It kinda depends on what burner you have. The 8X Taiyo Yuden TYT02 DVD+Rs can be burned at 16X with the NEC 3500A drive. I think quality wise they’re both great medias. Seeing how the Verbatim 8X DVD-Rs are on sale this week at $19.99 for a 50pk at Best Buy, I’d go with the Verbatims as a 100pk will cost you $40 (shipping is free).

Some burners really don’t like MCC02RG20 though. I know my PX-712A doesn’t; the error rates skyrocket at the end of the discs. NEC and Pioneer burners seem to do quite well with them on the other hand.

Lite-ons love 'em too.

Hi all,

Thank you very mcuh.
I think I am going to buy TY, my burner is NEC 3500.
Any idea?

Thank you
Doctor Aziz

TY media and your NEC should get along quite nicely.

#9

Doc,

My nec3500 LOVES the TY discs. I haven’t burned any mcc with it yet, but from what I gather, this burner works very well with many medias.

Yo-

Have had burning issues on my 3500’s with the Taiyo Yuden 8x +R’s

go here to see my posts of various media scans including Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden:

I haven’t tryed TY in my 3500, but I have written a few +R MCC03 and one -R 02RG20 and the scans are all terrific. All but the center of teh 02RG20 scan, but I think that’s because that particular disc had a weird blemish in the surface.

I would say that it depends on where the verbatims are made. If they are Taiwanese then I would go for TY.

I have tried both Verbatim (MCC003) and Taiyo Yuden (TYG02) in my NEC 3500.

Both burn at 12x with good quality.

TYG02 will burn at 16x in my Philips 1640 (aka BenQ 1620) also with good quality.
