Verbatim DVD+R very bad result, even Kaufland DVD is better

This is test of quality for Verbatim DVD+R / DVD-R compared vs hypermarket Kaufland K-Classic DVD+R. I bought Verbatim DVD+R media because i expected the highest quality but… unfortunately verbatim DVD+R is worse than hypermarket DVDs.

Prices compare:
Verbatim 1 x DVD+R = 0,30 € (in cake box 25)
Verbatim 1 x DVD-R = 0,25 € (in box 5 Pack)
K-Klassic (Ritek) 1 x DVD+R = 0,12 € (in cake box 25)

All Burned in Nero 11, Book Type by physical media (for K-classic DVD+R 8xburn, i forgot to change book type so book type is DVD-R)
FlextraLink: Enabled
All other options by Default
System Platform: Windos XP x64 SP2

Questions::confused:

  1. If in Disc Info Write strategies is 4x , does it mean i should use 4x burning speed?
  2. Which DVD-media type is better for best read quality DVD+R or DVD-R?
  3. Did i mistake in burning process or the Verbatim DVD+R is really so bad?
  4. What burning speed use for dual layer DVD.
  5. Is Sony DVD+R media better then verbatim DVD+R?

Disc: Verbatim DVD+R
Burning Speed: 4x
Made in: INDIA

(8xburn - the start is horrible then it goes quite well)

Disc: Verbatim DVD+R
Burning Speed: 8x
Made in: INDIA

Disc: Verbatim DVD-R
Burning Speed: 4x
Made in: INDIA

Disc: Verbatim DVD-R
Burning Speed: 8x
Made in: INDIA

Disc: K-Classic DVD+R
Burning Speed: 4x
Country of origin: Germany

Disc: K-Classic DVD+R
Burning Speed: 8x
Book Type: DVD-R (changed by mistake)
Country of origin: Germany

Hello Shinok1, welcome to the forums!
Do you have another DVD burner to try?

#5

If your Verbatim is the Life Series and not the AZO, it is pretty much junk media.

#6

always azo made in taiwan crap. :Z
i don’t saw any life series in germany.

#7

Looks like the wrong Verbies, not AZO.

DVD burner: Asus DRW1604P 1.10
Burning Speed: 4x
System Platform: Windows Xp SP3 x86
Burning software: Nero 11
DVD Media: Verbatim DVD+R (same as above)

Read test 8x Asus DRW-2014L1T

Interesting. So i think problem could be operating system, because Nero 11 (all nero software) doesn’t support Windows XP SP2 x64.
I will try different burning software for Asus DRW-2014L1T.

Your installation seem to suffer from issues, I cannot find any other explanation for such a wrong headline…
Your installation seem to suffer from issues, I cannot find any other explanation for such a wrong headline…
To make it clear, these are 2 PC with different OS and burner
Win xp 32-bit Asus DRW1604P 1.10
Win xp 64-bit Asus DRW-2014L1T 1.02

Maybe problem could be in ASPI drivers when i check version in

Windows XP 32-bit SP3

and

Windows XP 64-bit SP2

I tried install ASPI 4.71.2 for windows xp x64 but, but after restart pc the driver is still not detected. I have checked files manualy in windows folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Aspi32.sys - version 4.71.2.0
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WNASPI32.DLL - version 4.71.2.0

Im confused becuase in readme.txt is written:

For Win XP 32-bit:
ASPIXP.SYS will be copied to %windir%\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS
WNASPIXP.DLL will be copied to %windir%\system32\WNASPI32.DLL

For Win XP 64-bit:
ASPI64.SYS will be copied to %windir%\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS
WNASPI64.DLL will be copied to %windir%\system32\WNASPI32.DLL

I tied install ForceASPI but it dosnt support Win-xp-x64

Do i have installed correct driver even it is not detected by aspichk.exe?
What parameter should i use to install drivers?
INSTALL.BAT XP32
INSTALL.BAT XP64

  1. Run INSTALL.BAT with the target operating system
    command line option specified:

    X86 ( for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000 )
    XP32 ( for Windows XP 32-bit )
    XP64 ( for Windows XP 64-bit )

    e.g. “INSTALL.BAT X86”

  2. INSTALL.BAT will prompt you to specify which operating
system to install for if you did not specify one in Step 1).

    a) If you are installing for X86 systems for either
Windows 98/ME/NT/2000 then ASPIINST.EXE will be invoked
and the rest of the installation process will be carried
    out.
    b) If you are installing for X86 or Itanium systems the
batch file will invoke REG_XP.EXE to make the necessary
registry entries and then copy the operating system
specific files to the appropriate location. The operating
system path is determined by the environment variable
    %windir%.

    For Win XP 32-bit:
ASPIXP.SYS will be copied to %windir%\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS
WNASPIXP.DLL will be copied to %windir%\system32\WNASPI32.DLL

    For Win XP 64-bit:
ASPI64.SYS will be copied to %windir%\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS
WNASPI64.DLL will be copied to %windir%\system32\WNASPI32.DLL

  3. Reboot the system to enable the ASPI driver.

Win xp 64-bit itself is a joke.
I can tell you that as MCP/MCSE…

Do you really believe in that ASPI fairytale? I don’t.

Here is another test for K-klassic DVD+R. All burned by old burner Asus DRW-1604P, Windows XP SP3 32-bit, Burn soft Nero11/Alcohol + old and new Firmware

After Firmware update there is no big difference but, it seems Alcohol soft burns better or maybe lucky 1 DVD+R media in 25 pack?

Burner: Asus DRW-1604P (1.10 Firmware)
System Platfrom(Burning): Windows XP SP3 32bit
Burning Speed: 4x
Burning Software: Nero 11
Media: K-Classic DVD+R (Ritek)

Burning Software: Alcohol Soft

Read Test (under WinXP SP2 x64): Asus DRW-2014L1T 1.02

Awesome result for 0,12 €

I’d just like to point out that the 2014L1T does not always like to scan its own burns:

It also seems to be quite a fickle drive, specific to Asus (possibly designed by Asus?). The 1604P, on the other hand, is a rebadged Pioneer, and can be expected to perform differently compared to the 2014L1T. (It would also make sense for the 2014 to like the burns done by the 1604P).

Try to do Transfer Rate Tests. Maybe the 1604 and 2014 can read discs burned by the 2014, or maybe burns from the 2014 are actually as bad as it says.

#15

You could try this one :

Burner: Asus DRW-2014L1T 1.02
System Platfrom (Burning): Windows XP SP3 32bit
Burning Speed: 4x
Burning Software: Nero 11
Media: DVD+R Verbatim
Read Test (Windows XP SP3 32bit): Asus DRW-2014L1T 1.02

Do read test on Windows XP SP3 32 bit using Asus DRW-2014L1T 1.02

Maybe Windows XP SP2 x64 wasn’t compatible with Nero Disc Speed.

I plan it, becuase winXP x64 seems to be damaged, always problem with rundll32 during windows shutdown. But at first i have to backup important files.

#17

I wouldnt also rely on wxp 64 like pointed out before.

xp 32 bit or even 2k or 2003 as 32 or 64 bit would be a better choice.

And, as pointed out before by Albert, that used drive ASUS 1604P is just a Pioneer rebadge with kinda bad update support (compared to the Pios) and to rem the kinda law with Pios: never use them to scan.

#18

So what is the result ?

Is it going better ?
