Looks like Verbatim is now dealing with:

Ritek
Prodisc
CMC Magnetics
Moser Baer India
Taiyo Yuden
Mitsubishi

What’s next? Optodisc? (Craptodisc :Z)

I guess there is a big chance that Verbatim 8x DVD-R Pearl White is RitekG05 then, but I can’t check as those are not available yet.

thanks for info, oc-freak. a friend of mine bought some of these pearl white verbatims few days ago. i will check them out, if they are made by cmc or ritek, especially when i’m looking at the scan of R03 :Z

Verbatim must be removed from drives’ manifacturers recomended list.

Where is infosmart ?

I hope they don’t go with Ritek for thier DL discs

Well, at least these aren’t made with MCC codes like the Prodisc, CMC, and MBI manufactured discs.

8x with NEC ND-3540A

Is this just in Europe? All of the Verbatim discs here in the US are still MCC MIT (made in Taiwan) or MKM (Made in Singapour).

I hoped this never would happen… :frowning:

It’s so nice that everyday it becomes easier and easier for consumers to buy quality optical media, and all you have to do to accomplish this is to look for respected brand names.

…and then I woke up from my daydream to face the real world. :a

Maybe it’s time to get it over with and just start buying Ritek, Lead Data and Princo directly. Then you’ll KNOW that you’re buying landfill material instead of getting false hopes from buying quality brands.

I’m depressed…

That 40 POF surprised me, ive had discs with 30+ PIF (Max) with no POFs.

Pearl White Verbatims are available here for quite some times now… first only DVD-R now also DVD+R. I bought a spindle of DVD-R and they are CMC MAG AE1 and are actually quite good… at least mine are.

I’m not sure but I think Pearl White DVD+R avaliable here also from CMC MAG. I haven’t tried them out… I don’t think I ever will.

this is a sad chapter for verbatim. now i will only buy taiyo yuden as it owns verbatims

 ?

I think it is being seperated by lines of Verbatim though. I believe Verbatim Pastels are still TY for sure.

best CMC mag ae1 scan ive ever seen  All my cmc discs are crap.

I’d like to point out that Verbatim became famous mainly because of their DatalifePlus range.

Their Datalife (without the “plus”) range have never been top-notch media. As for the rest of their offer, I have no idea.

As yet, the DatalifePlus range still comprises only MCC (and now TY) media.

I’m personally more worried by the reported lack of consistency in the MCC production in the last months, than by the outsourcing to Ritek for “value” ranges of media.

Also, I’d like to point out that it’s -R Ritek media that has been constantly reported as problematic, their +R media don’t seem to have such bad reports!

Still, I don’t quite like the idea, it doesn’t sound right indeed, Verbatim+Ritek. Oh, well.

Word. However, I have recently bought Verbatim MCC04 media in a 25 pcs. cakebox that looked like the usual DataLifePlus box, only the words DataLifePlus were not shown anywhere on the box. So, they may have decided to drop the DataLife[Plus] designations altogether. I doubt this will make choosing quality media any easier.
