I know this question has probably been asked many times over, but a search didn’t really turn up much for me. Are these disks “Verbatim 95098” supposed to be any good? Here is a link http://www.amazon.com/Verbatim-95098-Branded-Recordable-Spindle/dp/B0009YJXMS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1290887216&sr=8-3 and I would like to know if they are worth it. They are dvd+r @16x. Thanks in advance!

There’s not much else you can buy with the same expected quality, unless you’re prepared to pay 2-3 times as much.

Personally I prefer 25pc or 50pc packaging rather than 100pc packaging, however.

thanks for the 411. what else can you buy with better quality for 2 or 3 times the price?
what else can you buy with better quality for 2 or 3 times the price?
At twice the price you can get (JVC) Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R, which might be better than some of the Verbatim 16x DVD+R (but not better than the best of those Verbatims).

At 3x the price or higher you can get specialty media such as e.g. Verbatim Archival Grade 8x DVD-R and Verbatim Medical Grade 8x DVD-R media, both of which at least in theory should have better production quality control.

ok, see what ya mean. ever hear of these “MAM-A”? here is the link http://www.amazon.com/MAM--Mitsui-Gold-Archive-DVD-R/dp/B000FAJQHS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1290891427&sr=8-9

I know that some of it was very good and some of it not so good, but I don’t know which of those two categories this particular disc falls into. Maybe someone else will know.

I don’t think anything will beat the compatibility of Verbatim Archival/Medical 8x DVD-R (media code MCC 02RG20) and Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R (YUDEN000 T02) with various DVD burners, however.

alright, i truly thank you for the insight. i have thrown away so many discs over the years. it’s like, why bother. in a year or 2 when you want to watch something you burned, it won’t play. it starts but then the player starts having trouble at some point in the movie or whatever you are watching. i also read a faq on here somewhere a while ago about putting labels on dvd’s and how you are not supposed too. i have a disc i just pulled out of the trash can that ended up there for the same reason. i managed to get the label off of it and put it back in the player a few minutes ago. will see if it made a difference. either way, i will not put labels on them again.

i received my discs from amazon today. verbatim dvd+r. they are the mcc-004 made in india. of course i can’t do any tests on them since the lg i am using doesn’t support any testing. i can’t get the stupid thing to even bookmark the disc to dvd-rom. i am burning them at 8x so i hope that is maybe a better speed to burn at than the max i can get out of it.
i am burning them at 8x so i hope that is maybe a better speed to burn at than the max i can get out of it.
I burn almost all my MCC 004 at 8x, which is a safe speed in all my desktop DVD burners (my laptop DVD burner is <s>pure crap</s> not good).

i purchased a lite-on iHAS 124 B today and updated the firmware to AL0H. turned on hypertune and this is the result of an 8X burn with the mcc-004 discs made in india
