This is just mindboggling:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-130-950&depa=0

Not bad. They are made in Singapour so I guess that makes them Mitsubishi Chemicals, right? (I know that different lines of Verbatim use different manufacturers).

#3

maybe CMC

#4

If they’re made in Singapore (which most likely they are), they are MCC by MCC. If they are made in Taiwan, they are made by CMC but still carry the MCC media code and dye.

#5

Yup, every Singapour made disc that I have, has been MCC.

#6

I’m tempted to order these. Can anyone confirm this media code? Because I really don’t want CMC. I’m hoping they’re MCC004, but I doubt I could be this lucky.

#7

I have yet to see a CMC disc that has come from anywhere but Taiwan. Someone correct me if I am wrong though.

Just got some today, here is the media code:
00000000 00 6C 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 85 0D 10 .l…@…R…
00000010 88 9A 80 00 03 4D 43 43 20 30 32 00 04 52 47 32 …MCC 02…RG2
00000020 30 20 20 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 02 00 06 09 0D 13 0 …

I have had success with verbatim’s made in Taiwan before, are these discs alright?

#9

Pacmac you mean the unbranded spindle from Newegg is Taiwan MCC? If so, that is continuing a somewhat disturbing trend I’ve seen, that there is less and less Singapore MCC media being produced. I wonder if MKM is going to close the Singapore plant or something…

Yes, they were made in Taiwan, and that media code is correct. I don’t have k-probe, but I have tested 3 of these discs in Nero, RNM 4.5, and verified in DeCryptor. The ones done with Nero and DVDinfo (just the speed test)aren’t spectacular, but had no read errors. I don’t have any experience with these discs, and this code is a little bit different than the verbatim -r 8x over at videohelp.com . So those reviews don’t help much. What is your experience with this media? Thanks for any and all help.

Taiwan MCC 003 has been excellent for me, with the exception of this one spindle of 10 discs I got at Best Buy. My 812S choked on them. However this 50 disc spindle of Taiwan MCC 003 is excellent. I did notice the 50 spindle discs had a different serial number from the 10 spindle discs, but both ended in X47B…

Ugh, I got mixed up and started talking about 8x Verbatim +R. I haven’t used any Taiwan Verbatim 8x -R, only Singapore, and it was excellent. I’d be more wary of the -R from Taiwan personally. +R from Taiwan seems fine. BTW, this is the media code I got from one of my Singapore MCC 02RG20 discs, it’s the same as the one you posted. I think the one on videohelp was retrieved from DVDIdentifier; I used DVDInfoPro. They give slightly different results for some reason…
