And the 4x burner compatibility list. They’re worthless if my burner doesn’t recognize them as 4x media.

What is the advantage to a -R DL disc? I mean, the +R DL disc seem to work fine. The only problem I have is with the price.

dvd-r is meant to be more compatible than dvd+r although if you you use bitsetting for any of the +R formats then compatibility will be pretty much the same. The -R DL wasn’t released as having any advantages, its more an alternative and hopefully competition to force pricing of the dual layer format down in price.

I think it’s a bit of a con with DVD-R. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but your average consumer would go for - cos it looks better and also cos it says right on the front 4X!!! Whereas +R can only claim 2.4X … but some burners can do up to 8x - this is deception in some manners that would cause buyer confusion.
