OK, who has used this media and can give impressions and maybe some CDSpeed, Kprobe or Plextools graphs?
What drive and what speed were you able to burn?

#2

BestBuy has it on sale in store. 25-pk spindle for about $28. Burning one now, stay tuned.

Speaking of Best Buy, I hopped over to my local BB today and boy was I surprised at the media section; there was a lot more 8x media than the last time I had visited (approx 2 weeks ago). They had the MCC 004, but also various 8x TDK media (+ and -). Of note was the TDK 100 disc 8x +R spindle, which is undoubtedly Yuden T02 (trademark TY cakebox, made in Japan). As for the 25 disc spindles, I noticed two different cakebox designs, one was standard while the other is often used by Memorex. One is Ricoh R02, but I wonder if the other could be TDK 002? I grabbed a spindle of the Verbatim 16x myself and plan on testing one on my PX-712A soon. I also grabbed a 25 disc spindle of TDK 8x -R (TTG02).

Drat. I just came back from there and they were all out of the MCC004:(
Love to see this on the 1620 but interested in what it does on any 16x capable drive just to judge the quality of it.

Lets us see the scans guys.

Burned 1st disc in my 3500 at 16x in Nero:

#6

2nd disc, burned in 1633 (BS0G) at 16x:

#7

Certified 16x media and that’s the best it can do?
Gawd… How is it that LiteOn posted record earnings?

Not bad on the 3500

#8

3rd disc, burned again in the 3500, this time a datadisc test. As you can see, the 3500 slowed to 4x. The 3500 tends to be pretty conservative when burning at 16x, but I’ve never seen it slow to 4x.

MCC004 burns great on my PX-712A at 12x (as well it should!):

#10

Here’s an older CDRLabs thread with quite a few more places where you can pick some up: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=17874

#11

Burned another datadisc test with the 3500, came out a bit better, but still did not quite complete at 16x:

#12

I noticed that now Bestbuy has Verbatim on sale (50 pack 49.99), I wonder they lazily mixed up the 8x and 16x, both on sale???

#13

I think what is on sale is the 50 disc spindle of Verbatim 8x DVD-Rs (should be MCC 02RG20).

#14

Here are a few scans of MCC004 @16X on the ND3500(2.17). CD Speed create data disc, disc quality test, and transfer rate. Kprobe scan of the same disc.

Does anyone know if all the Verbatim 16X DVD+R is MCC004? I was looking at some really good scans at 16X by rjb0388 in this thread:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=105169&page=5&pp=25

And i’m thinking about picking up a 25 pack from Best Buy for $17.99:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1091100392023&skuId=6810187&type=product

What do you guys think, good deal?

I’m trying to decide between a spindle or two of these or a spindle of Taiyo Yuden.

Thanks

I guess i’m blind, i just came across this thread down the page a bit:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=111502

Is there a way to tell if the 25 pack spindle is MCC004?

Thanks

Every package I’ve seen on Verbatim’s home page for the 16x +R mentions their Super AZO dye, so you can rest assured that it’s all MCC 004. I had one of the 25 disc spindles and it was MCC 004 as expected.
