Using Roxio and can't burn

I just joined after googling my problems so hello all and great forum.

Okay, here’s the story so far. I had a spindle of Memorex DVD-R from awhile ago. They worked just fine to burn the DVD’s I needed. (I use Roxio6 btw) After purchases some new DVD-R’s I cannot burn anything to them. I have checked all my device settings, DMA is good, I can still burn CR-R’s no problem so I don’t think it’s my device. I downloaded Nero cdspeed and it will not do anything with the new DVD-R’s, which are Fujifilm. I cannot get any program to recognize a write speed for these disks. Please help me out if anyone can

Welcome to CDF’s

What brand/model is your burner? What firmware is on the burner and is it up to date. Can you post the media code for those new discs please.

my burner is an NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A. I think I have the latest firmware but don’t know how to check that. The media code for the DVD’s? I don’t know where to find that info, sorry

Use Nero CD-DVD Speed to check. Firmware should be next to your burner’s name and the Info tab will tell you the disc media code.

firmware is 1.06.

Only thing i can think of is that firmware doesn’t have a write speed for those discs. Can you find any 8X discs anywhere. The drive is a good drive but it’s very old.

Another thing is if you cannot get it to burn any DVD’s at all is that the DVD laser is shot but the CD laser is fine.

is there anyway I can update my firmware?

Have a look at this thread.

The firmware update to Liggy’s 2.19 or NEC’s 2.0A will overcome these problems for you. Links to the relevant sites are in the thread that Rolling pointed you to.

Currently burning, and at a higher burnrate too!!

rolling56, thanks sooo much you are a lifesaver

And TimC, I suppose you should take credit too, it was your post that gave me the answer.

this site rocks and you totally saved my week.

I was about to have to go pay someone to run off the DVD’s I needed. :a

thanks a million!!!

 Alrighty then. Glad to hear your happily burning again
