Hi, first my problems began when the hard drive in my laptop (dell inspiron xps 3.4) went bad- I can't boot windows, and I am also unable to format the drive (I can't delete the existing partition). I decided that I needed to replace my hard drive, but I can't find any drives that have the correct interface. IDE and SATA drives don't fit- which is strange as I thought those were the only kinds of interfaces. Maybe Dell put some kind of adaptor in the computer to force customers to order parts from them?
Anyway, I have a external usb drive (well its actually an internal one in an enclosure) and I was considering trying to use that as a replacement for my internal one.
I connected the external drive to my computer, then I booted from the XP cd and tried to install xp to the external drive. I am able to partition/unpartition the drive but I cannot install xp to it. I'm guessing this is because I don't have the drivers installed.
So I guess my question is basically this; how can I install the drivers for my external drive if I cannot boot into windows? -also my computer does not have a floppy drive.
