Olli talks about CloneDVD 2, unfortunately no release date yet

Oliver Kastl is probably one of the most popular software authors of our site, the author and inventor of CloneCD and now the big man behind Elby and CloneDVD has posted some information regarding CloneDVD 2, the follow up of the DVD copy software application CloneDVD. CloneDVD is in a market with a lot of competitors and it's hard to compete against big companies like Ahead, Pinnacle, 321 Studios and others, but it seems Elby is certainly not giving up.

In a post on our forum the developer of CloneDVD has announced that CloneDVD 2 will feature a much improved transcoder (the part of the software that is responsible for compressing a DVD-9 movie to a DVD-5 movie). The transcoder will have, according to Olli, a much improved picture quality while it will only be a little slower. The software will also feature an improved Compress-O-Meter, which will exactly show the impact on video quality by leaving out audio and subtitle tracks.

Besides that the software will likely also become available for MacOS X, support of splitting of movies on multiple DVDRs, ability to leave out chapters at the beginning and the end of titles, an output size that can be defined by the user and probably more. Read more about this the forum thread. And if you think a Linux version of
CloneDVD is all that, you might want to drop a note in that
thread.
