Usb vs. firewire

I’m trying to upload video from my DV camcorder. The people at JVC are telling me that I have to use a firewire not a usb to be able to upload my video…Is this true?:disagree:

What model JVC? What does the owners manual say about connecting to your pc? What software do you use to capture to the pc?

i’m sorry…it’s an older model (GR-DX97U) and i don’t have the owners manual…I guess I could go to their website and look it up. But off hand do you know if it could or not?

You may be able to use USB but usually you will have to hunt down driver(s) and such. FireWire on the other hand is automatic, and universally supported.

According to the manual, http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/95/LYT1280-001B.pdf, you can use either USB or what they call a DV cable, which I’m sure is firewire. If you no longer have the CD to install the capture software and the USB driver, try to find it at the JVC site. Here’s a link to what they call “software guide”, http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/94/LYT1306-001A.pdf. Didn’t see any drivers listed.

Thank you, I did go to the site and downloaded the users manual but when I went to see if they had software there was something wrong with the website to where it wouldn’t let me access it. Well at least I know I can use the usb…thank you again.

I think the software/drivers are no longer available for download. That’s all the message means.

Just install a dv/firewire/ieee 1349 (it’s all the same) card in your computer and use a tool like Windows Movie Maker. Complete automatic import.

Thank you…
