Urgent..Can burn only 7%!

I faced a problem for my DVD Writer (LG-4163B). I bought it yesterday. When i installed everything and try to burn my first DVD in my life, the burning process stopped at 7% with the LED on the writer still on. I tried to wait for around half an hour. It remained the same. So i stopped it.

When i used the writer to read that DVD again, it can show the capacity in use but i just couldnt access the files inside.

May i know how to overcome this problem?? Is the problem cause by the writer or the DVD disc (Melody DVD-R 4x, the code should be MUST 001)?? I burnt it at 4x. My firmware is A103. Should i upgrade it to A104 only this media can be used??

Thank you.

Try check advanced IDE proprieties:

My computer --> Proprieties --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and right click on Primary or Secondary IDE Chanal, where your DVD burner is attached. Look proprieties and Advanced Tab and look if Ultra DMA 2 is selected( Not PIO mode). If not, click above and choose DMA if avaliable. Reboot and try again.

Like I’ve said before your DMA is OFF for all drivers. It must be ON. Did you have follow my sugestion ?
With DMA off is impossible to burning anything to DVD bcz the transference rate of the data. 8x burning needs about 11.000 Kb/sec.

#5

Thanks for your reminder. But the problem is when i want to switch on (tick) the DMA in nero, the DMA cant switch on.

May i know how you guys switch on your writer DMA? Thanks a lot.

**ps: Sorry i really new to the DVD writing stuff.

#6

I followed the instruction above. I cant find any ATA/ATAPI Controllers there. Later may try to post the image here.

#7

I cant enable my DVD burner DMA. Here is my image post.

From nero, the CD burner DMA is enabled while the DVD burner still disabled. When i ticked “enabled”, the windows “DMA enabled failed”.

I checked the Device Manager>under the IDE controller.

I switched to Secondary channel where my burner located, changed the automatic bios setting to UDMA 2-…, is it correct??

After all this, i rebooted my PC, and used the nero to check the status of my DMA, the screen like image 1 was came out. It means my DMA still diabled.

Next question: Under the DMA disabled status, i tried to use nero to do DVD (4GB) to DVD copy. It always failed around 70% reading. Is it due to my writter or the HDD space, as the minimum requirement for the burner is 10GB HDD space and above, while my HDD only left 5GB.

Any software to recommend for Disc to disc copy other than NEro??

Please help. Thanks a lot.

Exactly the same thing I’ve said before in my post, but with a lot of pictures and very well writen.

#10

Have you tried uninstall these nVidia drivers and install the default IDE ATA/ATAPI Windows XP drivers? I’ve read about some issues with these drivers and could be your problem.

#11

May i know how to uninstall the nvidia IDE driver??

Thanks.
