Upgrade firmware of USB2.0 drive

I have a Nec 2500a that I want to upgrade the firmware on but it is mounted in a external USB 2.0 drive enclosure and everything I have read says to disable all USB ( Fireware ) devices.

Before I try this can anyone tell me if it is safe to attempt this using the Windows updater?

Yes, it is safe…I’ve tested it, and it has worked !

As long as the flashing utility is able to see the drive, it should work out. The nice thing about NEC drives is that even if it stuffs up, the drive is almost always recoverable in DOS on an IDE channel.

I’ve flashed mine several time’s without a problem using the window’s flash utility. Running the drive in a bytec external case I got from newegg.com
