Unsupported media on NEC-3500

#1

I bought an e-proformance +R DL disk made by Prodisc (MC : PRODISC D01 (000)) that’s not supported by my drive. I tried the latest official firmware (patched by liggy) kai also 2TF, but it’s not supported by that either.

Is there any way I can bypass this ? I really don’t care about write speed. Even 1x will do

Thanks

#2

there isnt a way to bypass it youll have to buy another brand and i suggest youll get verbatim its the only normal DL media at the moment and it got high compatbility among drives

#3

that sounds not good…then in 1 year ALL media is unsupportet and COULDN´t write i hope not…

#4

I know this is crappy media, but Verbatim is 50% more expensive. Thanfully I only bought one disk.

However, this media is supported by pioneer(3 writers), sony(3), Lite-On(3), HLDS(4), Plextor(3), BTC, Cyber, Philips, Hp, Aopen and BenQ.
NO NEC DRIVE supports them, not even the newest 3540 ! :a :a

Crappy DL media support, no error scanning (for 3500), I guess this is what happens when a company only cares about its OEM sales.

Yo-

However they are great burners for the good medias-

Yes I know, that’s why I bought it. But NEC’s support of their drives really sucks.
I’ll keep the disk, maybe someday I’ll even burn it…

Yo-

Another VERY good reason to be a member of these forums - you can have a good drive and good support too!!

aiolos check your PM.

Well the only support I’ve had over this drive has been from this forum. Not only from my questions but also reading 10s of threads when the 3500 was hot.
And of course I’ve always used the various moded firmwares posted here, although I never overspeed when burning.
The popularity of the NEC drive in this forum and the moded firmwares were also two of the reasons I bought the drive in the first place.

This is what I wanted when I made this post. Thank you very much.

I’ll try it tomorrow and post the results here. Of course I’ll use the lowest speed (2x if available). Unfortunately I can’t do error scanning.

Wish me luck !

Unfortunately I still can’t burn the disk. It’s not recognized even with the new f/w. If if helps, here is what I get from DVDInfo pro and Nero.
Thanks for trying to help anyway.

The only NEC firmware supporting Prodisc D01 that I know of is the 1.23 firmware for the NEC ND6650. I could try to convert the strategy to a working strategy for the 3500. But there’s a pretty high risk of getting some coasters before having a decent burn.

#14

Ok, this is my fault. I was refering to the f/w that XND1n01h made for me. Unfortunately it still doesn’t work, but he’ll have another go at it.
I don’t exactly know what he did, but he said it might work so I’m willing to try it.

As for converting the strategy from another drive, well I only have one disk, and at 5E each I don’t plan on buying any more. So I’d really like to help get this media supported by the 3500 but with only one disk I can’t do much. Thanks for taking an interest though.

#15

XND1n01h kindly made me another f/w by copying the strategy from MKM +R DL to the Prodisk media code. This time the disk was recognized but I got a power calibration error when I tried to write to it. If anyone has any suggestions (like a more suitable strategy to copy) they’re welcome.
I’ve attached the log from Nero to give you an idea of what happened.

#16

Hmm… aiolos I’ll look into it

#17

This is the disk burned by a friend’s Liteon. It looks awful at the end, but besides some problems in the last 5-6sec of the main movie, it plays fine on 3 players that he tested it in.

#18

It looks nice not bad at all… the high spikes at the end really throw it off but the discs don’t seem bad for +R DL =).

#19

try the BenQ brand  a DW1640 will support any media, after a couple learning burns.

#20

Yes, it’s not bad at all if you exclude that spike. I don’t know what caused it. I hope my friend wasn’t multitasking when he wrote the disk.
The only problem is that while the disk plays fine (except for a few seconds), it can’t be ripped. DVDDecrypter gives up. Probably the same would happen with Nero.
