Undervoltage: Better DAE?

If I extract audio from a scratched disc, the drive handles tte damage much better with 11 Volts instead of standard 12 Volts of external power input.

Why?

How could you draw this conclusion??
How many discs have you extracted by using this way? Is the result reproducable??
You’re saying " handles the damage much better. " Is this quantized by measurement or just your sense, your feeling that it “handles” better?
Your question is vague and it implies many variables and not in a controlled environment.

On lower voltage, the drive does not cough when reading discs. The laser focussing sound (makes rotation acoustically hearable because scratches cause the laser to “trip” over the scratch and make a sound for each rotation) is also more silent.

It could be reproduced by adjusting the potentiometer of the laser.
