Hello, I read the FAQ/sticky about not reading disks and don't think my problem relates to any of the things mentioned.
When I buy new DVDs, I make a backup copy. My process is to read with one drive and write with another drive. I have mainly been using Ritek/Ridata DVD-R media which has always worked well for my. I use some Ty media too.
I use RipIt4Me for 99% of my copies. It reads the disk into a temp directory and then it turns the process over to DVDShrink to burn the disk.
I was copying from a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B SB04 (latest) to a DVR-116DBK (latest firmware). One day I put the DVD back into the 116 and it acted like it contained a blank CD?? I found that I could take the disk out of the 116 and put it into the 203 and it would read it fine as would my DVD player. I assumed there was something flakey on the read side of the drive so I bought a new drive and installed it yesterday, a SH-S203B, with latest firmware.
Today I backed up my first DVD with the new drive...guess what...it can't read it either...as before, I took the DVD out, put it in the 203 and it read it fine....???
I am flumuxed....
