Unable to play in DVD player

vbimport

#1

I am using DVDFab 5 Platinum 5.1.0.0
I have been using DVDFab for quite some time, but have now hit a problem.
I am unable to play a DVD made by DVDFab in my Sanyo or Panasonic standalone DVD players. But it does play on my PC and in my newer Technica TV/DVD combi.

The movie in question is Starship Troopers 3 : Marauder.
I am using an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A in my PC. This has a write speed of x6. Here’s a link to specs http://www.sonynec-optiarc.eu/en/exhibits/hh-drives/ad-7170a.html
DVD media is Maxell DVD-R 1-16x speed.

I have tried several things which I will list here :
Selected/deselected Change DVD playback order and Remove annoying PCGs.
Reduced Write Speed to 4x and to Slowest setting, from Recommended.
Changed Write Type to SAO writting, from Auto.

I have made comparison logs between this failure and a successful copy :

The only thing I noticed is that the write speed is more than double for Wanted, which works, compared to Starship Troopers. Strange.

If you want me to post the full log, let me know (I removed the log so that new ones would be created for this exercise).

I am now worried about the numerous copies I have but have not checked.
I hope these are not going to be more coasters to add to the ones I just made.
Any feedback appreciated.
xerty.

#2

since it plays in your PC and in my newer Technica TV/DVD its not a burn problem. enable pathplayer and choose main movie mode. keep sao writing and 8x burn.

#3

Pathplayer is enabled when necessary.
Still worth trying your suggestion ?

#4

Btw, if I copy to my hard drive, will this allow me to try various write processes without having to go through the long process of copying ?

#5

yes use write data

but i think the problem is with the copy

#6

Yes. You can use Write Data mode to try different settings within DVDFab and it will start the burn process immediately. You need to reduce the requested burn speed to 8X or less.

#7

Right then.
I copied the movie to my hard drive using Full Disc by mistake and then wrote it to disc using Write Data with following choices :
Write speed = 8x
Write Type = SAO writting
PathPlayer = Always enable

This seems to have worked
Maybe PathPlayer was not being enabled ?

I’m going to try another copy going straight from original dvd to my dvd writer.
Will report back soon

#8

Very strange.
Direct to disc did not work, even with the same settings in place :frowning:
Any ideas ?

#9

Guess not :frowning:

DVDFab does not use on the fly process, it rips to the hard drive then burn from there.
If you are running a program in the background to allow on the fly burning then that is your problem, DVDFab does not work withe those type of applications.

Have a nice day :flower:

It worked when I copied Full Disc to HDD and then used Write Data using the HDD as the source.

But it failed when I tried the normal method of Full Disc with the movie as the source and the dvd writer as the destination. ie straight to dvd.

I can’t see why there should have been any difference. But obviously there was as one method worked and the other didn’t

Just to clarify. This is the first movie I have had trouble with. But, I suspect that I may have some more (I had trouble playing another movie, Hero Wanted, but did not chase it up), as I have not tried several others that I have already copied :frowning:

I understand that it copies the movie to HDD, as I have noticed the message in the past.
I am only using DVDFab and not using any other app.
I do have Nero installed, but not running.

Kind a sounds like you and canper913 may have the same issue–> http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/dvdfab-stopped-burning-need-help-254747/

Did you get any error codes; and what was the nature of the failure–still that it won’t play in the standalones but will play on the PC?

Actually, I can’t see the similarity between us tbh, as I do not get any errors as per the logs I upoaded.

It is rather puzzling.
No errors are thrown up.
I’ll check the other movie I had trouble with a while back and check the others too and report back.
Thanks for the help so far.

Decided to try this. I know, I know. This was suggested and I did not do it immediately
The only difference between this method and the one that failed is that this time I chose Main Movie mode.
This actually worked

So, maybe the problem is the compression ratio ?

Though, this still leaves the question of why the Full disc to HDD to dvd works, while the Full disc to dvd fails.

Ah well, life is full of mysteries

#19

Full disc to HDD to dvd works

as is true for some mobile options, for some users

dvd to hdd, to mobile option

maybe the problem is the compression ratio ?

i was thinking more like player compatibility in how dvdfab processes the full disc mode. changing playback option and removing content.

as this can hold true for some players and some users using split mode

#20

Sorry to be so late popping in…
Wanted to say I agree with Troy. I believe it to be a result of the combination of Full Disc mode processing and disc structure.
I’ve done quite a few Full Disc burns to DL’s since PathPlayer came on the scene. I loved the fact that I could have the all of the original files on the disc (with the exception of the annoyances like the FBI warning, etc.,) but still pop a disc in and have the movie start right up. It was great.

I started to see some failures though,. First off, mostly with flicks with alternative endings, etc., but eventually, the failures piled up.
I can still play the failed discs on the pcs, pioneer and liteon standalones, but the samsung, RCA’s and the like, just won’t play 'em.

For the time being, I’m back to my old ways of using clone mode if I want all the content or using customize if I want just the main title and maybe an extra file or 2.
