Unable to flash 2510A

My drive is an NEC 2510A. I believe it is currently BIOS v2.04.
I cannot burn RiData DVD+R DL Dual layer disks. I read it might be a firmware issue.
The drive is manually jumpered as master, (only ROM drive on machine).
I downloaded the firmware update with the 2.18 firmware.
When I run the executable I receive the error " Target NEC ND-2501A is not found correctly.

Any help appreciated!

Skip this crap media, it’s a waste of time and money, like Princo…

Only use VERBATIM DL media.

Welcome to the forum.
Don’t mind chef he has very strong opinions about media and he’s usually right if some times not helpful,
Right getting back to your problem.
Go to the dangerous brothers site and download another version of the firmware both windows and dos. Read the help file on the site.
Start your comp. go to system properties/hardware/device manager and in there remove the dvd drive and the secondary ide channel.
When you reboot windows will reinstall all.
Check that they’re ok and the drive is reported as working correctly.
Make sure that there are no other programs running.
Then try a flash in windows and if no joy go to dos this usually works.
Best wishes

Haha, thanks, but it’s not only my experience with these Ri* DL media…

Thanks for the info. Chef isn’t the first to advise me about the Ritek media. NEC has told me they won’t even talk to me due to the age of the drive. I just ordered a new NEC 3550. Thanks for the advice!

use necwinflash.exe supplied here or dee’s 2.05c modified firmware http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/2500/
