MID: (UMEBDR016)
Burn Speed: 4x
Software: Nero 12 Ess.

Again “cloudy” media

Poor readability overall, it don´t like high read speed

I have to use an other Lite, my normal scanner don´t recognize this media

What happened here? I guess it´s the shifting from 2x to 4x, the write strategy of the Panasonic wasn´t good. But the media have also problems in general

funny scans on Samsung SE-506BB, day after burning “mountains” are moving  Scanning @ 2.2x shows similar graph like on other drives.

Yo

I guess your Kodak don´t have any clouds on the dye?

Well, has anyone managed to take a picture of those clouds? The only strange thing I observe on those Kodaks is clearly different tint of reflection depending on the distance from the edge. In the centre dye seems more greenish and then turns more into purple towards outside of the disc. When looking in direct sunlight whole area seems to be uniformly dark grey.

Here the best picture I could take to illustrate the tint change.

OK, today I tried burn on another drive @4x (but buggy FW of Samsung burned @6x) and I got some clouds, maybe those discs can only be burnt well @2x? (I burned 3 discs on BD-5750L @2x and all of them look nice like in previous post, however last one failed @14GB).

Today’s “cloudy” media (burn rings from Samsung for free):

This media seems to be awful, mostly

Don´t think it depends on the burn speed

Sure it’s an awful media. But I’d assume that burn speed could impact. Even on crappy Sony powered by RITEK BR3 I can see some visual difference between 2x and 6x burn. If you still have any Kodak discs left try to burn @2x if your writers support that speed.

Already tried one

But the clouds wouldn´t care about the write speed, the media have a bad production.

Sure, with lower speeds the overall error-rate is lower, but the clouds are still the problem

Another burn, different burner:

Lite-On iHBS212 HL05, 22,82 GB burned at 6x

sold as “Kodak 6x BD-R”
MID: UMEBDR016
made in China by Umedisc with Anwell Smart-BD line

Liteon iHBS 112. Burned with cdrskin (options -force -speed=6, but drive slowed the speed down to 4x around 3GB mark - this spot can be seen in the scan). -force -speed=0 yields also in a 4x burn.

“Picasso” branded BD-R 6x (non-printable) from aliexpress. 5 discs burned, this was the best.

Burned with Pioneer BDR-209EBK @6x (speeddown to 4x)

Speeddown with a BD-R?

Are there visible dye errors like this?

Yes, looks kinda weird

And it is only good visible after burning? Had similar problems with some MBIR06, but not so often

If Ume had also such bad DVD-media I would say they are generally bad. But their DVD-media have very good batches.

I know MBI used this MID in the past, but this is made in China and uses Stamper which are similar to Ume.

BD-R AP1041210

The reults remind me a bit of MBI, but it´s more sensitive to higher scan speeds.

The Pio also don´t like it that much

The LG needs much time for LeadIn and Nero returned an error like “A Reset has occurred”. So I used Imgburn and it works

Best result with this media so far
