The ecosystem for Ultra High Definition (4K) will be technically ready by 2017, equivalent to 2002 for HD TV, according to IHS Electronics & Media’s Tom Morrod.

By 2020 there will be over 200 UHD channels worldwide, rising to over 1,000 by 2025. The availability of UHD TVs in the home and UHD services by pay-TV operators with advanced set-top boxes will drive the commercial opportunity for channel

Most of the channels in Australia are either 1080i, or occasionally 720p.

It’s 11 years on, and no change in sight.
Uhd is a long way away (for Oz TV).

It’s hard enough telling the difference between 1080 and 720 on a normal TV at normal viewing distances, so I don’t see how 4k would be a worthwhile improvement in this case (computer screens being another matter).

UltraHD/4k is about selling new equipment and media, not about improving things for the normal consumer.
