hey guys,

i recently purchased some TYG02’s off ebay, i thought they were supposed to be good, but after every burn i usually get 10-30 BP occurancies

can someone tell me which tests to run on plextools to see what errors and what not

and also can someone please tell me what DVD-R media they use and have almost perfect results with their plextor 716A-0208

#2

How were they packaged / advertised as?
Some time ago I purchased a spindle of GQ (fry’s (USA) brand) media. The MID was TYG02 (taiyo yuden). It turns out they were fakes.

So now I purchase real taiyo yuden, verbatim from meritline.com

based on other peoples posts here, I have also slowed down my burning speed: i.e. If media is 8x, i burn at 6x.

Hope this helps

well plextools and nero allows me to choose 16x, and when i chose 16x i got 30 occurancies, when i choose 8x its around 8-12 occurancies, i did media quality check and at 4x and 6x it says this media is rated as good, 8x says poor, 12x says an error may occur and 16x says something else, but i cant remember, its something bad tho

the MID is infact TYG02, but on the inner part of the disk i see nothing exept DVD-R 8x and some number i cant read…but it looks like 7101T

also, it never came in a spindle, it came is some weird plasic thingy on each sides of the stack of 50

what media do you use now?

#4

You should see a number like this on the inner ring (Photo is of TYT02 DVD+R). If there is no number it probably is not real TYG02. I could be wrong but I think all TY media has a batch number like this. My TYG02 starts with GG000xxx. TYG02 burns very well in my Plex at 12x.

Yes, the MID on my GQ (fry’s) is TYG02 (which is the ‘accepted’ MID for taiyo yuden), but they are horrible, 2 out of 3 are coasters.

I am currently using genuine branded taiyo yuden 8x +R (MID YUDEN000 T02 from nero info tool). TG00159 is on the inner ring.
I have used genuine branded Verbatim 16x -R (don’t have any left to check the MID), both from meritline.

#6

well mine have yet to produce a coaster, they all work fine, no skipping or long read times

is there any other media i can use that ppl have had success with?

#7

Some cheap manufacturers even copy the inner ring. If the wrapping says “Made in Macao” or something, this is a fake. TY produces in Japan only.

#8

it says made in japan

#9

Where does it says Made In Japan?

If there is no serial number that starts with GG00xxxx like crossg said, then it is a fake TY.

#10

on the shrink wrap on the outside of the spindle

its a sticker, it coulda been placed on there

Do you have DVD Identifier? The media code block of my TY03 looks like this:

0000 : 01 40 c1 fd 9e d8 52 00 02 84 0d 11 66 78 90 00 .@…R…fx…
0010 : 03 54 59 47 30 33 00 00 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .TYG03…

WE-DeusEx*2001 you can try performing a PI/PO scan on your media to check what the write quality is like. BPRec occurences have nothing to with write quality, they indicate how many times BURN-Proof kicked in during the write process. This can happen when your computer is not fast enough to supply your drive with enough data. If you are willing to waste a disc try running Nero CD-DVD Speed and perform a Write Speed Transfer Rate test. This will show you how fast your Plextor is burning the disc. This test can also be performed with PlexTools (and you have an option to do a simulated burn). Create an image of this test and post it here.

#14

here is the Transfer rate test using NEro

#15

@WE-DeusEx*2001. Can you run a Nero CD DVD Speed Burst Rate test. Looks like your drive is having trouble at the higher speeds. Burst rate should be> 40mbs.

#16

here is a PI/PO scan… i will do the burst rate test in just a sec

#17

when i press F6 to do a burst rate test and when i pressed start, it looks like its doing a Transfer rate test, doest seem to work for burst rate…but i will post the results anyways

#18

seems like when the drive hit 15.2x it sounded like the drive stopped and restarted spinning again

#19

Your screenshots look quite normal. I have never reached the 16x with TY, and it was next to impossible to burn at 12x with 02.

#20

That’s Power Record Kicking in at the end of the burn. Put a full written disc in the drive and under run tests just select burst rate. Your Post #14 looks more like a write test than a transfer rate test.
