TY in U.K?

Hi
looking for TY in U.K. Anyone got any leads ? How would one get them in from Belgium or Germany? if i cant source them here.

Anyone interested in getting together to share a bigger shipment in from over the pond . Seems they are quite a bit cheaper there but by time you add frieght and duty maybe not.

I know proriver audio have TY but the price is pretty stupid. Anyother links for U.K ?

Seeing some posts about Verbatim data life is actually TY. Would that also apply to u.k ? or is it country specific.

For example verbatim -R 4x printable are doing the rounds in U.K for as low as .86pence per disk in a case. I see in USA they are somewhat more expensive. How does this all work ?

Any info appreciated, especially from fellow U.K er’s.

regards

Mark

Taiyo Yuden Silver/Green CD-R80 min Bulk (52X Compatible) Qty 100 > £22.33 incl. VAT

As for shipment, all the necessary info is there for you.

Hi Boskin

Thanks for the reply. Your right of course its river pro audio…i always get that mixed up.

Yes the TY cd’s look fine but their TY DVD prices are …er…a bit over the top lets say.

Any ideas about the Verbatim data life being TY in europe. I am seeing posts about Verbatim being TY in the USA. I would imagine that a disc in U.K would be the same as a disk in Europe. I can understand how it would differ from the USA to europe though.

Its all a bit misleading really. You buy brand A only to find this week its actually made by XYZ company and next weeek its made by PRINCO or Wung WA WA CHOW company the next week.

Maybe we should call it the DVD lotteries…“step up buy a disk and see whats in your mystery bag this week”…

Anyway time to get back to work. If you have any further info i’d be glad to hear it.

Regards

MArk

Hi again
an order of disc’s i ordered earlier in the week just came in. Among them are some Verbatim 4x -R.

DVD Identifer tells me that they are MCC 01RG20. They are Reorder #43235 made in India. They come individually packed in a Jewel case and are labelled Verbatim Data Life plus 4x printable.

The same disc appears to be available from quite a few suppliers here in U.K. The cheapest i could locate them is .86pence each ex VAT.

Perhaps the much more expensive discs i could find that are labelled and packaged the same way may be TY as they are somewhat dearer ?

Can anyone add to this info. Would interesting to track down the real TY Verbatims in U.K if indeed they even come into this country as Verbatims as seems to be the case in The USA.

Regards

Mark

Yes, you’re right about their DVD prices. I’ve noticed that too.

As for “Verbatim DL being TY”, are you talking about CDRs or DVDRs ?

See, I myself have Verbatim Pastels CDRs made by TY… but I’ve never heard of the ‘Verbatim DVDR = TY’ existence.
Are you sure about that ?

Mitsui, Fujifilm made by TY & TY blanks are among those known to me, but not Verbatim.

Hi Boskins

Sorry i should have given all the info. Yes i am referring to DVD’s only. Cd’s are no biggie , can get TY’s everywhere and sometimes quite cheap as well.

In fact while we are talking about TY cd’s i found a FULL FACE printable CD made by TY. Closer inspection reveals the disc is made by TY but the printable coating applied by another compnay, althought no sure which company applied that coating. Have noidea how this would affect the quality, will have to try them i guess.

But back to DVD’s

I was reading some threads late last night (early mornng actually) on Doom9’s forum. I followed some threads that linked to a site that linked to a forum somewhere that had some interesting discussion on verbatim datalife DVD 4x in a jewel case being made by TY. These guys were based in the USA. I did’t take that much notice of where they got them etc as the states are not much good to me here in U.K as i belive the cost for freight and worst of all handlng charges through heathrow are quite high. You would have to order a LOT of disks to make it worth the time involved to go through it all.

What i did get out of the thread however is that quite a few people are reporting Verbatim Data life 4x as TY’s. This seems to be a USA thing only. Hence i was wondering about the situation in Europe and here in U.K.

I have not burnt any of the verbatim disc’s i got yet , only just got them in but it will be interesting to see how they go .

As well i am trialling some real cheap ones. They are bulk pack orange 4X -R. They identify as Princo :frowning: but i hear princo seem to be much better lately so it’ll be interesting. As well i got some printable bulk pack . They identify as Prodis cS03. The next lot are Ridisc 4x -R witha video reel overprint. They identify as G04 as expected.

So all in all 4 different disks to try out. Will see how they go.

But the reason for this thread is to try to track down some TY’s at a reasonable price.

I wonder if that will be possible in U.K ?

Verbatim Pastel DVD±R are made by TY. For example available @bigpockets.co.uk or @valuemedia.co.uk

Pls, reveal the secret - how do you know that ?
I mean e.g. they @ bigpockets.co.uk in case with Verbatim DLP say that Lead-in Info either uknown or N/A.
As you can see there, almost in any other case they don’t “hide” that kind of info.

Anyway, looks like the bigpockets are getting bigger and better, which is nice.

Well at least all Verbatim Pastel media I’ve bought have been TY as well as all reports I’ve seen from other people. Bigpockets doesn’t write the (correct) manufacturer info for many discs (at least not for DVD+R) so I don’t know why the bother having that info at all.

BTW Maxell also has a similar 5-pack slim cases with DVD±Rs in 5 different colours and they’re also made by TY.
(Dustin har förresten reat ut dem under sin fredagsrea ett par gånger för 13.75 kr/st inkl. moms, helt ok pris  )

Well, perhaps you’re right. Yet they have always been correct when it came to RiTEK.

Jag brukar få deras katalog, fast har aldrig köpt nåt från dem.
Ja, jag håller med, 13.75 är OK pris, men glöm ej frakten !

I sourced some from a shop in London,
Verbatim Pastel Coloured DVD±R in slim-line jewel cases (5-pack only) are Both TY’s :D.

Quite a few online places carry them now too. The 2 places jsl mentioned & also www.cd-rmedia.co.uk who are an offical Verbatim stockist have them.

Hi
Thanks will check it out.

Would you pls post the ADIP.

I wonder why cd-rmedia.co.uk says that "Manufacture’s Code : MCC " ?
Are they not aware of the real manufacturer ?

i was wondering the same thing.

From personal testing, the +R discs give the lowest error rates on my set-up, the -R aren’t that special in terms of error-rates on my set-up. I can get similar results from MCC or Ritek media. Hopefully where the TY will shine is in their long-term stability
