TV show writers brains are not Y2K compliant!

Y2k begins … christ failed to turn up … ditto for the anti-christ … reality TV shows start popping up, like mushrooms from a cow patty.

Coincidence, or is there something more sinister involved?

It’s obvious to any right thinking person, if you just consider it!

TV Show writers brains were NOT y2k compliant, have suffered catastrophic failure & left TV programmers to fire up the remnants of their alcohol marinated minds to create the garbage reality TV shows that grace our airwaves (or cables, if you’re a yank).

Tonights primetime lineup, on Australian airwaves, much reduced compared to the choices available in much of the civilised world, is not even Australian Reality TV shows. We now have to import other countries reality tv rubbish & Oz has become the toxic dump of Entertainment failures. It’s almost enough for Oz to demand that England return our episodes of Neighbours!

What are your thoughts on the catastrophe that is Reality TV?

:cop: Yes, TV is a vast wasteland…it has been long before Y2K. Are you just now realizing that? Remember…you always have the off switch.

P.S. Not all mushrooms that come from cow patties are all bad! :stuck_out_tongue:

TV is drivel, driven by those that actually think catering to the common lowest denominator is a good thing. I canceled my digital cable almost 2 years ago and have not missed it.

#4

I’ve never even had cable TV in my life. I just don’t watch much TV (never did)…I like to stay active vs. being a “couch potato”.

#5

You must watch TV! Digital of course. This year it’s been biathlon, alpine skiing, figure skating, snooker, dakar, WRC and soon we’re firing up F1, IAAF and the lot. All of this needs watching.

Then we have the obvious series, like Greys anatomy, Lost, TNG-reruns, ER etc

If nothing is on, there’s Discovery.

RealityTV though is so 2004. There are no on at the moment and wont be for a long time either.

It’s about time :iagree: I might consider going back to the UK if you took Neighbours away :iagree: Luckily we are spared in Canada.

I don’t watch reality tv at all… I pretty much just watch sports, news, Discovery and OLN (cos they have the Dakar (which was awsome) and the Tour de France (which is always awsome))
NFL has finished now tho, but Premiership, Hockey and Lacrosse are still on, and we’re getting coverage of the Baja too.

Agree with the Shhhwwweeedde on this one :iagree:

it sux…time could be filled w/o having to watch some fake “survivors” last a few weeks on an island…reality is taking some of these morons and letting em on an island for a year…then see who comes out on top…i’d watch that

Excuse me but I take high offense to this thread  First of all, don’t blame the industry, blame the viewers

#1) RealityTV is very popular and attracts ratings, therefore represents very good advertising revenues for the networks.

#2) TV networks LOVE reality TV, why ? it brings them more revenues AND it costs them a fraction of the money compared to scripted dramas. Remember that with scripted dramas you have to pay the actors, so each episode costs millions of $, sometimes over $3-$4millions - Considering a full order of 24 episodes, that’s a lot of money. Reality TV is very cheap to produce, you don’t have actors to pay, only the production company & staff and the prize of course, so some reality TV series can cost less than a million - As an example, fear factor, at somewhere between $500k-$600k an episode. What’s the bashing of survivor ? Survivor and Amazing race are cash cows and produce good ratings, why ? Because obviously people WATCH those shows - Amazing Race brings some of the highest ratings and is far from being trash tv, you can LEARN from it. American Idol also brings excellent ratings and those shows are pretty damn cheap to produce, they get discounts on travel fares and sponsors. I do agree there are crappy reality TV shows, but don’t put all of them in the same basket and don’t put all the writers in the same basket too

Duh!
This IS the living room, right?

Here, have a bone.

like the auto industry…it took $3 gas for people to realise to get cars that are “good” on fuel and not guzzlers…advertising…the car industry pushes(advertises) the trux/suv’s more…y?..cost…more $$$$…and a shocker…the oil companies benefit also

tv industry pushes these reality shows cause they cost the least…not a shock…pushin a show that brings out the worst in people…to win at all and any cost…that’s sportmanship

There is no such thing as PUSHING - Blame people for having no values - I mean it’s a known fact, people like to see others in unfortunate situations - Reality TV brings good ratings because people WATCH those shows, nobody is pulling your arm to watch a given show, if you don’t like it don’t watch it, why do shows on TV get canceled, the GOOD shows - because of poor ratings, so they get pulled out. I have nothing against Survivor and Amazing Race both are good reality TV shows IMO. American Idol on the other hand, I am SHOCKED that it is getting that good of ratings but it does and so as long as people keep watching this, the producers will keep on making such shows. You are mad at producers for making such shows, keep in mind that they pitch shows to networks, and it is the TV networks that welcome those shows with open arms because it gets revenues. Why is there bloody fast food chains? there is a market for it… Nobody has ever pulled my arm to watch a show on TV.

As to Debro your remark is uncalled for and irrelevant to my reply. (try to act your age!) (assuming you’re not 13!

thats crap…look at the fox network…married w/ children stayed on for 10 years and it wasn’t even close to the top of the ratings…how? and the survivor amazing race debate…i guarantee it doesn’t have the viewership of grey’s anatomy(i don’t watch)…advertising…its what makes the most for them…so they’ll put on and advertise what they want…and if u or a viewer doesn’t like it…they still don’t care…thats fine you like these reality shows but they all have a shelf life…and i think its pretty close to goin…stale

oh…and american idol…2 words…fox network(where have i heard that b4)

Hay, this thread has turned into high quality reality viewing :stuck_out_tongue:

I, for one, am hooked

#16

struggles to think of any reality show still alive

#17

struggles to understand why reality tv is still on

#18

Some of them are alright. Recently while I’ve been confined to the couch and not been able to sit at the PC for long periods, it’s kept boredom at bay.

But usually I wouldn’t watch it at all :disagree:

And jeez, people…chill, it’s a thread about reality TV, is it worth getting wound up about?

LOL !!! Are those viagra pills ?

Dunno … but if you turn them sideways they look kinda like a headless, armless, legless woman with big boobs & good child-bearing hips.
