It sounds too good to be true, but the New York Times reported this week that episodes of Showtime’s “Dexter” and “Californication” will be added to TV.com’s free offerings. We…

Cable and Satellite TV are dead. Make way for the new, free, and select the show that you want programming. Why pay for the Cable or Satellite? I either get my shows off Usenet or through Hulu. I live without Cable or Satellite and still catch the shows that I watched when I did have Cable. I have saved myself $60+ dollars a month and Time Warner just announced another hike in prices, 9% worth. Seems like they do this 3 or 4 times a year. Another thing, these media companies gouge the Cable and Satellite companies for carrying their programming. Just here recently, Viacom, gouged Time Warner for the right to carry its programming. What did Time Warner do? Whalah 9% hike in your cable bill!! I think it was around $200million they wanted from Time Warner. So the Cable and Sattelite companies are not totally to blame here for hikes in your bill.

I’ve been considering cutting off my cable and using over the air TV and Netflix instant viewing for additional content. I wish there was an easy way to get Hulu and more online content to the TV.

Get a Usenet account and a program called Newsbin. Astraweb is cheap, $39/ 3months basically $13/month what it comes out to be for unlimited and SSL encryption and 20 connections to boot to max out your internet connection. Most of the popular and major TV shows are posted on Usenet in HD 720p. Sometimes, they post them around 30-60 minutes after the show is aired commercial free. When I did have cable I only watched a few channels and shows anyways. Most of the channels were full of useless programming that I didn’t care for anyways. Why pay for stuff you never watch? Now if the Cable and Satellite companies let me pick the channels that I wanted and only those channels, then they might be on to something and might even get my business back.

Lets hope that with the advent of online programming and so many people turning to it and dropping their digital provider accounts - that this forces cable and satellite into an a la carte model…but I am not very optomistic.

Let’s get this straight. It’s not the cable and sat TV industries that are dead. the format is irrelevant. Unless programming improves, the tv production industry (and film industry) as we know them will dissappear.

Porn is much better over usenet as well. I can’t get enought.

I dont understand why people want set top boxes, all services are incompatible with ever other service, just buy a $800 media center pc and you can have and use any format you want, its cheaper then having all these electronics.
